That is exactly what I planned doing Lakota. I really wasn't wanting my Palace to bring panic to the campgrounds with visions of rotten toothed little boys playing banjo's dee dee der der der der der.or something like that.

Got the a/c unit installed after sweating under the hot sun cutting and trimming and cutting and trimming,, and trimming, and trimming and trimming some more, But got it did,,, Makes a world of difference, and better half is all happy,, cuz we all know, if she aint happy, no one gonna be happy.

Thats true David,,, The window unit is only temporary,, not a permanent install. Its only going to be used while parked, and to help the central roof air,, during the extreme heat here in Mid lower Texas. When we hit the road,, the original, emergency window section goes back in place and the a/c unit gets put in the pup trailer.

The only real drawback to the window units is that they were not engineered for road vibration. You may have shortened life. The rv units on semis have an incredibly short life span. As always, my unsolicited, conscious clearing comment...

Im even more Hill Billy'er,,, Im going to have 2 winder units.. The better half doesnt like the idea of 2 plastic 55 gallon barrells to use as mini pools, and the idea of eating lots of gassy foods to make them jaccuzzi's. Maybe I have better luck with getting a regulation sized pool table and bowling lane.

Not a dumb idea, Rich. And that AC unit in the winder gives the palace that hillbilly look LOL

Comment by Rich Thomas on July 6, 2017 at 9:49pm

I done that last year just to see if a small window AC would cool the palace. it worked great. I have a long window dead center of my dinette. The center of the window opens up and I made a 1/4" plywood box that fits in the window frame and locks in with two 1/4 " dowel rods bent at a right angle. It made the palace look like a rolling ticket booth when the AC unit wasn't installed but after I painted it, and put the AC in it looked okay. The Palace has the AC plug in the roof for a roof top AC but I'm not sure I want to mount one on top due to the fact the Palace has no leaks up there and I don't want to create a situation where one could start.

I am proud of you for using plywood and 2x2s instead of duck tape LOL. Hope it goes well.
