110V issue

Okay, here's a poser for you folks out there in RV land!

1) my 110v power doesn't work on the genset. Works when plugged into shore power.

2) happened (I think) around the time I did the fridge redo and installed new 12v convertor unit (Boondocker)

3) tested Onan and she puts out 123v at the output box that ties into the coach.

4) replaced both the GFI outlet and the main 30 amp breaker in the house panel.

5) I have made no other changes to the wiring (yet.)

So, if I go out on the road my 110v power doesn't work since for some reason I'm not getting the power from the genset.

Is there some component I'm missing between the darn genset box and the main house panel??? Isolator maybe on that particular wired circuit?

If you are getting power from the genset and not to the coach, it sounds like you have a breaker tripped.  Check the breakers on your generator.  There will be two.

I checked both 5 amp glass fuses but they are intact (doesn't mean the fuse housing is good) and I have a new 30 amp trip breaker for the genset I'll install. The existing one isn't tripped and power is being generated. Just not getting to the house panel.

On the right side of your generator are two slide/toggle switches.  They will be located on the right side of your generator control panel.  There are two breakers.  One will be 20 amps, and one will be 30 amps.  They are on the SIDE of the rectangular control box on the right side of your genny, where the fuel line and fuel pump comes in.  They aren't easy to see, and might be the source of your dilemma right now.

Mine has a changeover switch that switches the source from shore power to generator, sounds like yours isn't getting switched over!

Do you disconnect shore power before starting gen?

Mine won't start while on shore power.

I wasn't hooked to shore power when I tried using the genset to power the coach (figured it was a good exercise for it using a shop vac. That's when I noticed the problem and started tracking from the genset inwards (GFI??, Main breaker?) and couldn't figure it out. THen used shore power and it worked but still no juice from using the genset.

Found a blown capacitor in the OEM transfer switch under the kitchen sink. Great place to put one by the way....

Kirk, you get the cupie doll! Found the box under the kitchen sink cabinet wedged under the drawers. Blown capacitor.

 Indeed if the genset itself is working but there's no power to the coaches AC distribution panel, I suspect:

  The gensets onboard circuit breaker is tripped (can be hard to find on some units)  

  If you have an automatic transfer switch its not operating to switch over.

 I liked in the old days when there was no auto transfer switch to go bad, there was simply a 30 Amp RV Receptacle fed by the genset located where the power cord was stored. When driving or dry camping you simply plugged the RV cord into the outlet.

Found it!!! It was a transfer switch under the kitchen sink and hidden under the drawers. Blown capacitor so wound up buying a new switch. Theres a vid on my UToob channel.
