I own a 1988 Six-Pac pickup camper which does not have a battery inclusion. It has 2 power cords: 1 for external power (power plant or 110) and 1 to plug in to my pickup for 12 volt power(runs off the truck batteries and not efficient at all)

I would like to wire in a 12 volt rv battery which I could charge off of a portable solar panel(which I have)

Any suggestions on wiring in the rv battery to power camper lights and water pump only?

Thanks,

Mike

I would use existing Plug wires that you use to get power from the truck battery, Run that to an on board cabin battery and tie in a solar panel to recharge during daylight hours. I suggest this, seeing its already wired to pull power from the truck battery, and this way, with an on board battery you would pull power from that.

If the truck plug has the clearance lights etc, wired in also,,, isolate the ACC wire and ground wire.  and use those to run to on board battery,, leaving the plug to run clearance lights etc.

Thanks, the plug to the truck is a 5 post plug in as you would a travel trailer.

On the standard 5 pin trailer plug, the *Black wire is the battery charging wire,, which is wired to your switch (Batt.Conv switch) .This wired directly to your 12 volt interior lights etc.

After further investigation, there is a 5 plug into the truck but only 3 wires as follows:

1 - Heavy Black wire

1 - Heavy White wire

1 - Red Wire

I am assuming the Black and White are the positive and negative battery wires and the red is for the clearance lights on the camper?

Thats correct,,,  Black is HOT,,,,White is Ground and the Red, for clearance lights.'

Sounds like you have the jist of it and it should be a fairly easy task to do some converting...
