Hey, fellow campers!
I have a 1986 Chevy TravelMaster Class C which my family and I just love. I've put a new engine in it, got 6 new tires and have went through all of the appliances, etc. and have replaced the ones that didn't work. We really wanted a generator to enjoy all the comforts of home while truckin' to our various destinations, but I didn't want to spend thousands on a small Onan generator... So, I got a 8140 watt Powermate and got a cargo carrier to haul it... I know it looks a little "hillbilly" :-) , but it works and from inside, you can't really hear it with the t.v., dvd player, and air conditioner going... I'll figure out a way to really secure the power line while in transit... Any reason why this is a bad idea?

I see a Ohio license plate. You should drive over to the Jimco Jamboree this beginning of August. We have plenty of 20 and 30 amp hook ups.
I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. My initial reaction is that is seems to sit a fair distance away from the motorhome, which means you have to REMEMBER it's back there when you back up. You might want to check the regulations on hazardous materials to see if you need some sort of sign or something on it. Too bad that spare wheel and tire are in the way, it seems to me that it would look better and be more secure if the carrier were closer to the MH.
Another concern would be that with it just strapped down like that someone might be tempted to walk off with it when you weren't looking.
Those are excellent points, Sylvia, and I appreciate you mentioning them. The length issue has definitely been something to get used to... Relative to the security issue, we've devised a locking system that will, at the very least, slow down and inconvenience a would be thief... Our test run to the lake proved successful and we had all the amenities while in transit. Thanks again for your response! Motor on!! :-)
Sounds like you have it under control. :)
Looks like a full proof plan to me! and with 8kw, you can run your home during a power outage! You should seriously consider visiting us up at the Jimco Jamboree this year! Guaranteed to enjoy yourself!
We're looking forward to the Jimco Jamboree... That sounds like a great opportunity to meet some like-minded peeps! It'd be a nice little drive from here in Southwest Ohio...
