Now I have a pulse high pitch noise from the new in the tank fuel pump. It seems to match the rpms of the 454 in the 89 P30. I have upplugged the three wire plug to the tank and it stops the noise. What do you think it is? Normal? Motor runs good but now not sure I should trust it? What next step?

On my 95 Chevy 454 TBI and other brands of Motorhomes they make a faint (have to listen hard or be back by tank to even hear) "whine" when the key is first turned on but stop once they build pressure (This is when not runing, just turn key to on and listen). If one ALWAYS makes a noise I would be afraid to take it on a long trip it can be wayyyyyyyyy more expensive if you break down on the road versus fixing it at home DUH. My professional mechanic friend told me thay stopped buying them at Car Quest or NAPA as so many failed quickly and now ONLY buy them from the dealer (Chevy or Ford).

Any time I mention an in tank fuel pump the mechanic insists to bring it in so he can put a fuel pressure meter on it I ADVISE YOU DO THAT, cheap n easy diagnostic !!!!!!! Of course, a clogged filter can be problematic YOU MIGHT CHANGE THAT FIRST N SEE WHAT HAPPENS.........

PS THE motor can run good in the driveway while a pump or filter problem ONLY show up under a hard sustained load so dont let good running under light loads make oyu think all is well. On our recent trip to Utah and Colorado we were on 10% grade mountain roads with 10 MPH (almost dead stops) switchbacks and when I out my foot back in the 454 she never missed a lick or coughed or spit or backfired (sings of not enough fuel) once so she has plenty of fuel and fuel pressure wooooooo hoooooooooo its still the original pump but a new fuel filter and Lucas Top Oil cleaner/lube and Lucas fuel cleaner has been used regularly

John T NOT any fuel pump expert so dont place too much reliance on this !!!

Good ideas. The 89 is a carburated 454 and the new pump is a carter so what to do? Will check the filter which is almost new. We are not scheduled for a trip for 6 weeks so I have time to do the tank removeal. I have 3 times lowered the tank which is an other story. I will check my supplier today.Thanks.
