When we first purchased our 1985 Midas the "value" for insurance purposes was not so great so I spoke with the company (in our case it was Progressive). I was told that if I wanted to insure the vehicle for a value that exceeded the amount that was the standard for that vehicle, I could have it professionally estimated by local experts (RV Dealers for instance). With proper documentation they could insure it for the new appraised value. At the new appraised value rate that is. We decided to stay with the value they had set. It's a gamble, but then again it is a gamble with all insurance. Your insurance company can answer this best. I will add these pearls of wisdom. When the "professionals" evaluate your property they look at the "market value" not your emotional attachments and and memories. To me I look at a diamond and still see a rock. My wife disagrees, she sees the diamond. (Good thing for me as we have been together 40 years in a few days). One more thing if you plan to full time in your RV. There is a loss of use clause available in most cases that can be critical if you loose your "home". It happened to some folks we met and it was a really tough deal. Good Luck and check with your favorite insurer...the Drive By Tourists
