I just replaced 10 of our 1156 light bulbs with LED bulbs, another 20 to go. This is an expensive conversion, anyone have a source that is cheaper than $24.95 each?

Im using a strip light ya can cut every 3 led's bought a 16 foot section of 300 leds for $9.97 on ebay.

Im converting half my lights with cool white and cool blue, so its not 25 times brighter then daylight when I have the lights on. I also ordered another 16 ft section of cool blue to put under the awning. Wife wants to order the twin pack of RGB (red, green ,blue) strip of leds that come in 16 ft legnths with remote control to select color, and it has 20 plus effects, from color changes to running and blinking if wanted, that was listed for $17.99 (free shipping). I will be posting pics when I get all the lights wired in and installed.

The price has gone up it is $30 for 10 now but that is still a deal. As far as light output goes it is a little less bright then the normal bulbs but more then enough for our camper.

Ive bought several on E Bay wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy cheaper then that. Just go there and search for 12 Volt LED or LED 1156 Replacement etc etc. HOWEVER Ive found a ton of different ones. Some have a real blue light. Also, get ones with the most LED's on board for more light output, I just bought one or two at a time until I found the ones with the most light output and best color, but I'm afraid I lost info on which ones I bought and besides the sellers there and types and brands changes almost daily so you just have to try them out. They come from China so it takes a few days to get them.

NOTE regardless which bulbs I tried NONE have as good color and as much light as when you buy the factory new complete light fixture units (also on E Bay under RV lighting)  which have several LED's flat mounted all pointed down and the more glass looking lenses versus the plastic. I think they make the 1156 replacements that are the flat type with all LED's pointed down and I like them the best.

I bought these from eBay. $3.40 each. They are flat panels and really bright. My only complaint is that the 3M double-sided tape provided does not hold up to the heat. Eventually they fall down and sit on the lenses. So far they haven't melted or distorted them in any way. You want WARM WHITE. The "white" ones are the color you see up by my dashboard. Not white at all. Description from eBay: 10X Warm White Car 48 SMD 5630 LED panel Light 1156 BA15S

Ya got a real good price on those Jim... Its true tho, You have to shop around Flea bay cuz sellers change inventory etc. and when you by with-in the states its a tad more on price sometimes and when ya order from China, can take up to 2 weeks to get them. It all depends on how long you want to wait. But the picture shows excellent lighting,, really brightens it up.. I did have one complaint on a 12 LED flat panel conversion, I turned it on and it was like a 2500 watt shop worklight, and could probly blind someone if the light was directed at them like a spot light.. Felt like 4 times brighter then daylight... I recommend *Soft white to medium. The super brights are for spotting air craft. Im waiting on strip light on a roll with a dimmer control. I will post pics when I get them installed.    Note**** the 3 M tape does have a tendency to come loose and drop the light.

These are 48 SMD LEDs. I was really disappointed with the direct bulb replacements. They aren't even as bright as the 1156 bulbs. Panels are the way to go. I *think* there are 24 SMD panels available too. They shipped from Hong Kong. Took about a week. I wouldn't say mine are too bright, but I wouldn't want them any brighter. The other obvious benefit is that they use hardly any juice. With the 1156 bulbs, every fixture I turned on would result in dimming all the others. If I tried to turn everything on at once, they were all dim and the fans on the converter were running full steam. These things don't even kick the fan on even if I have all 20+ on at once. Still looking for suitable exterior panels.

Thank you all for your help, it is good o know that the bulbs from China are working so well and are sooooooo cheap :)
