Did you use the Winnebago Industries parts link at the top of the page of this discussion to see if it was there for sale?

Thanks Randy, before I take off in the summer that's what I plan to do if I am unable to find out what turns them on.

David

Does anyone know what turns the radiator fans on and off? It's a 1988 Chevy P-30 454.

Genuinely electric fans are controlled by a thermo switch screwed into the radiator.

Thanks Tony and Joy..Where is the thermo switch and what does it look like?

When leaving on a trip I stop at a state park 2hrs out of Seattle. This is where I noticed the fans were not coming on. I cleaned the ground wires and it seemed to work the whole trip.

Then last week just running the engine up to temp they again did not come on.

David

Pat, thanks...it is not running hot, but the fans are not coming on when they usually do.

I have a new radiator, water pump..running the whole Banks system, and just need to know where to find out what turns them on before heading out on a month...or more trip next month..

And you are sooo right about 454's..what a sweet power plant...ZoooooM!

David,I looked around on the web and saw a sensor for the factory radiator fan  system. It's in the intake manifold by the thermostat I think and has two wires. There is also a relay.

can anyone tell me how to check the relay randy

Randall,if you turn on the dash A/C with the ignition key on the radiator fans should come on.That's how it usually works with GM cars and trucks. This would check the relay. If you put your hand on it you should be able to feel it click.

THANKS I WILL GIVE IT A TRY.  RANDY

Thanks Jim..I will take a look..my thoughts were that it had to be close to the engine thermostat..Looking at the temp  on the dash they always came on at a certain point...and the they didn't...

I need to find the relay, what it looks like and where it is...
