Rebuilding/Renovating a 1968 Jet Travel Trailer

Hi all!

My husband and I recently purchased a 1968 Jet travel trailer.  We have had trouble finding much information about the company other than that it was short lived, and that the owner died in 2012 (the company was mentioned in his obituary).  

First step was to take off the aluminum siding (that had been spray painted.. grrrr) to assess the water damage.  I have a feeling that most of the wood was original as some just disintegrated when touched.  We found out that it would be easier to remake everything than to patch and repair.  My husband is in the process of rebuilding the walls and we should be ready to attach the frame to new walls sometime this week.  (About 2 weeks worth of work most night after work, and almost all day on Saturday.)  

Next up is the roof, electrical/plumbing, new water tank and installation of a gray tank, and floor.  Hopefully we can get this all done by the time winter hits.  We are in Utah, so we can get a lot of snow.  Hoping to get it water tight and stored by then.

Any opinion on aluminum vs. vinyl as an outside?  We are considering both.

either vinyl or aluminum are a good option,,, the price isnt real drastic,,, all depends what route you wish to take.. There is a good RV replicator company that specializes in RV metals and vinyl for older vintage RVs.

Looks like ya have yourself an awesome project.. Just love it when ya get the hands dirty, ripping apart old and repairing/replacing with new, and bringing a piece of history back to life,, Then the best part follows,,, traveling and making memories with the family.

BTW,, forgot to compliment the turquois stove,,, I hope you can keep it working,, those look real classy in a vintage rig.

Hi Lakota!  The oven/stove is about the only thing that we are keeping.  Ha.  It is what sold us on this particular travel trailer.  The vent cover below (that used to house the propane heater) is going to be refurbished and it will end up being an access panel to our electrical.  Just too cool to get rid of.  Thanks for your reply.
