Is there somewhere on the forum that lists what people have used to seal their roof. Mine has some sort of ugly silver stuff on it right now. I would rather have something white. Do I need to sand the silver down and apply something over it. What are the most popular products to use?

Hi i went to the local home improvment store (Menards) like lowes or home depot. Go to the roofing dept. ask for the white roof sealent that they use on mobile homes. I paid $26.00 for a gallon. Take a look at my pics. to see what it looks like.
Have a grate day
did u clean ur roof before u put it on? I have a leaking problem now....
Yes you can use any cleaner like Purple Power or any Cleaner degreeser.
If the eternabond is good for the cracks & gaps, what do I use to seal the rest of the roof and how do I get rid of the ugly silver stuff that is on it now, which I think is KoolSeal.
has anybody tryed this?http://www.lowes.com/pd_139941-29-5530-1-30_4294934213__?productId=...
Here's something I've been looking at. A little pricey but a lot cheaper than replacing a roof or loosing a classic Winnebago because of a leaky roof.
thanks so much for this website. Now I've just got to figure out what kind of roof I have on my 1995 21ft 5th wheeler.... how can u tell????
Hey Mary Ann,
The Roof sealant I got from Armor Garage really does not require any roof prep more than plug obvious leaks and clean (it fixes the rest of the leaks - if there are any). The Armor Garage coating is guaranteed for ten yuears than add a coat and you get another ten years, etc... It goes on anytrhing, it's very white and is very UV resistant and drops the interior temp noticably. But, there are a number of quality roof and/or EPDM coatings out there - some better than others - some for rubber roofs only - some that will do any roof - fiberglass, metal, rubber etc.
But the Lowe's or Home Depot varieties are not really RV spec. There are some things from the home improvememnt stores which are legit and can save money, but their roof products just are not capable of standing up to what an RV or trailer needs. Your trailer sees a rougher life than a house and needs a heavy duty roof coating if you want to be able to do it once and forget about it for a few years. That said, any roof covering is better than none, as long as you know the limitations and possible issues.
Hi,
We used Gaco Roof Silicone Roof Coating. about three years ago and this year I did some changing around. New roof rack and vents. So I added another coat. But we have had no leaks. I have never used anything else but my experience with this has been good. And we live in the the north wet. Our roof is metal. Hope this helps. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. This is my first time back on this website since last year. My camper guy has been working on the interior. We have not got to the exterior yet. I can't wait until everything is done and I can just enjoy.
