We are trying to find our trailers vin number. We found a vechicle identification on a metal plate on the back side of the trailer. Could it be our vin number it is only 3 letters and 4 numbers. We can't find the usual 16 digit number on the trailer tongue. The tongue was sanded and painted.
Thanks for your help

If you can't find a stamped VIn number on the trailer tongue ,like you stated, it was sanded and painted, Ask your local DMV, if the identification number off the metal tag can be used for identification purposes. I have come across several trailers that had work done on the tongue, including total replacement, leaving NO VIN numbers available.Texas DMV, used the numbers off the metal I.D. plate and issued a title with those numbers. On rare occasions, they will have to run a title search or have an officer *verify,,that no VIN number is available on the tongue.
Thank you for your reply this has been driving us crazy.
