Hello I am a newbie to the group. We bought our vintage camper about 3 years ago and absolutely love it.
Our camper was fully restored when we bought it. We now have a window leak that we are unsure how to fix. It only leaks when the window awning is down, I have attached pics of the inside and out.
Check to make sure the bottom window channel has its drip holes cleared, and that the rubber seal around the window frame is in tact and not cracked, Visually inspect around the whole window for even the tiniest pin holes,
First thing is to understand that the point of egress is NOT necessarily the point of ingress. Your leak may originate a surprising distance away from the window and migrate to the window. Water will follow the path of least resistance. It may originate from a clearance light, awning fastener, etc.
My suggestion would be:
Remove the crank handle and interior window trim.
With a garden hose at low volume and no nozzle and someone inside do a water test. Do not use a pressure washer. The whole point is to emulate natural rain fall. Always have to hose pointing downwards.
Starting at the bottom left corner run the water along short sections of the bottom exterior frame. Allow adequate time for water penetration to be observed before moving on to the right. When the bottom is done move upwards on each side a few inches at a time. Always move upwards, avoiding leapfrogging.
Pay attention to the awning brackets.
If no ingress continue in short sections along the top of the window.
Continue upwards to the awning fasteners, (with the awning up and then down), clearance lights, top cap to sidewall junction, etc. until hopefully the person inside sees a leak.
Again, always move from low point to high point with the hose facing down, as per rainfall.
Once you locate the ingress point some photos will help for repair advice.
This may take some time to perform but is beneficial in avoiding hit and miss repairs.
Best of luck.
EXCELLENT advice Terry,, Thanks for chiming in...
Thank you for the tips, we will give them a try and let you know our results. You have been very helpful thanks again!!
Thank you Terry, the awning bracket seems to have been the problem the chalking was cracked. We re-chalked it yesterday and it rained today, no leak :) Thanks again for all the great advise!!!!
You are very welcome, and thank you for the follow up. Not often received in forums.
