Suspension air bags 13 Replies

Has anyone replaced the coil airbags? If so how did you get them in. The instructions say to twist the air bag but I can't get it to untwist once it is in coil.

Hi Philip, good to hear about a running Allegro driving in Ohio. It will not be to long before Tina and Pat Paul are driving their motor home in Ohio to attend the 2016 Jimco Jamboree. It's always nice to see a white & green Allegro parked here at the Jam.

Was anyone traveling across I76 today? I saw an old Allegro going over lake Milton between Youngstown and Akron Ohio with a keep behind it.

How about some pics of your Allegros? I threw up a random pic of mine for the group photo but it's not fabulous. There are far more photogenic Allegros out there. Maybe post up some pics and we can vote on the best one to represent the group?

Thanks everyone for the advice. I got the right stuff now. I have to do around the Windows and the refrigerator access door because I took them off for replacement and to get new frig in.

Tiffin still has parts for our old gals in stock in many cases... I've had good luck giving their parts dept a call.  but yes check those drain tabs...clogs happen.  I have yet to find the leak in the front windshield however... off center left and right sides.  I've had the gasket pulled and reset with the hot sealant, silicone, caulk,  and behind each marker light etc... I have not had the glass pulled as that is cost prohibitive and not many places will touch it anyway.

As far as SEALING your windows,,,,, check first where its actually leaking. Its NOT always around the seal, sometimes it is,, But as Jim mentioned, check the *drain track. If its a window that cranks out or slides open, check the felt seal where the 2 pieces of glass meet. Track drains get clogged easily with everyday dust and crud blowing in the wind.

If the original seal of the window is whats leaking, NEVER,EVER,EVER, use silicone, unless you want to peel it off a couple months later and reseal it again. Use Butyl tape, it comes in grey and black rolls,, Looks like cauking on a tape roll.

Its not that hard to work with and removing a window and scraping off the old butyl tape off and applying new butyl is an afternoon job. Usually takes a couple hours to remove,,reseal and re-install the window, then move on to the next one.

A *Note,,, with the window out, You can check the surrounding wood frame for any water damage and takle that problem while the window is out.

Philip - do you mean around the frame itself? If so it appears to be that sticky gray stuff (my dad calls it "dum dum"). I used it to repair the range hood vent and a couple of other protrusions through the skin on my Allegro. It comes in a roll. If your windows are leaking it may not be from the frames. Sometimes the drains get clogged.

Does anyone have a suggestion for sealing around Windows? I see it is some kind of grey caulking but not sure what kind it is.
