We are in South east Indiana not far from Cincinnati. Getting ready to paint outside white and I think I'm going to go with a teal stripe, I am going to use a roller, we'll see how it goes. My husband is very handy so we have been able to do all the work on ourselves and it beats watching t.v. I hope my daughter see's what I see in this camper. It's one of my favorite things to do, all the memories and seeing so many great places and making friends. We have visited Michigan City Indiana many times, I love it there. We have climbed Mt. Baldy quite a few times, always fun.

There is a slide for the lower half of the door also but it is right on the door frame ...the lock for the up position is above that...it is pretty light...may not even be 1500 lbs. I haven't really done to much to it...I have a 1973 Skamper camper also that is 16' that I use most of the time now...but I let friends use this for a little camp out that I have here at the farm a couple times a year...just hate to sell it...there's not many around. I do plan on painting the outside some real girlie color along with the inside too :) Maybe next summer. I did fold down the dinette into a permanent bed I like that much better because I wasn't in it much during the day when camping and there are usually picnic tables at camp grounds. There is another out there!! she has painted it up so cute!! By the way I pulled this little camper around with my Honda Element which is a 4 cylinder...with no problem at all...didn't even notice it back there!! Have fun decorating & I would LOVE to see pix of yours...I live in northern Indiana where are you located??

Ours has the chain too, we thought that was to lock the door. The ice box was taken out so we are going to do like you did and put in a mini fridge. My husband says he thinks it weighs around 1500 lbs, do you know the weight? I want to try to glam it up a bit without taking away from it's original features. I will send pics when done hopefully not much longer but it feels like we won't ever finish some days.

See that little chain & small "little" rod just about midway between the two door handles...that is the lock it up slide's into a hole there...also the gear thing outside under the door where you crank it up ...you lock it in there also..against a gear... as far as a crank mine came with it...here's my email address...justlindasue@hotmail.com...send me a pic of yours & I will send back pix of mine...my is a 1961...was in pretty good shape when I got it. Oh and about a holding tank...I think there was never one in 1961 they probably just cut & attached it unto the hose connecter & just let the sink run out unto the ground...my guess :) I guess you could put a bucket under it but why...it's just water from the sink :) My husband thinks the little slide lock in my is not original...I really don't know but nice to have.

We bought one of these for my daughter. We are fixing it up (a lot of rotten wood to replace) and have some questions.  Ours has no real way to lock the camper in up position. We don't have a crank rod and have been using a pipe wrench any ideas on that? It is nice because of the low profile but we need to make it easy for her.  Also is there suppose to be a holding tank for waste water as ours doesn't have one  Thanks
