Yes, cost is a factor and because they are aluminum it takes special knowledge related to prep-work. I checked out Behr as you suggested and it seems like great stuff.
Yes we have been hot here too. We did manage to get some work done this weekend and I was right... it was SWEAT equity. lol
Hi Sylvia,
Well...we have run into snags, snags and more snags. You know how it goes! Ughgh! Although, I have done more research than anything and we will be taking a paint brush and roller to her instead of paying $$$ to get her painted!
She is painted with house paint right now. Need to sand her down in some spots, add a bit of bondo, sand some surface rust down on the tongue and go for it! I was hoping to be further along than what we are now, but...
Sundays are the only days we are able to work on Rosie and we got some things done and things came up that needs fixed. Ughghgh. I'll write in later on this afternoon with pics! Whoohoo! Looks like heavy winds today and the heat has broke itself...possibly down in the mid 70's...thank goodness!
My thoughts on Rustoleum and paint...this is what I've researched: Rustoleum is the way to go, although you are limited to only 5 colors or so and you cannot have a custom color. We go to Home Depot as I know just about everyone in every dept. for my store and there is a gal in the paint dept. that knows her stuff!
About a month ago Lisa and I pinned Cindy down for about an hour and we seriously grilled her about house painted vs. car painting. We've come to the conclusion that my pocket book doesn't want to spend $3-5k and take the chance of someone not understanding what they are doing and do some serious pitting. We live in a small area with the next bigger cities being 1.5 to 2.5 hours away.
We discussed paint and that included Rustoleum. With this paint, it is great, although you are seriously limited to there ugly colors. Cindy suggested the Behr Ultra Exterior as it is made for aluminum and to last. Since us talking to her a month ago, Behr has come out with even a better product for the exterior for exactly what we want and how it will be used. I tried to supply you with a link, although Behr is an interactive site and it wouldn't hold the link. So, go to behr.com and search under products for "MARQUEE." Let me know what you think!
Have a glampy day! Tee hee!
Leah!
Oh you will. Have you painted the outside yet? I've been watching this thing on Youtube where a guy does a pretty nice job with rustoleum paint on his. I'm tempted.
Good for you! That's good to hear...although I don't think we will ever stop...the day we bought them we vowed to spend forever! LOL! I'll be puttin' in some sweat equity myself...high doubles, low triples. Girl, I'm feelin' that ughhghggh!!!! LOL!
Yes, I'm pretty stoked about it. I think I have pretty much everything needed except new tires and batteries. I keep telling the husband that the longer he takes to work on it the more expensive it will be despite my being frugal. lol
This weekend promises to be a hot one.... looks like we'll be literally putting in some sweat equity.... ugg
Hi Sylvia,
No worries! WOW! What a bargain! That rocks! You can put any kind of design in yours...that's cool! Mine is the original. It takes time to buff all of it, especially by hand...but its pretty! Good for you!!! That is so awesome!
We only grt to work on Rosie one day a week, Sunday. It's how much we can push into Rosie in one day...but we seem to get things done! Not even sure what is up for this Sunday, but we'll do something!
Have a glampy weekend!
Leah.
Hi Leah:
Sorry I didn't' see this latest post until now. My husband had to work over Memorial weekend so we didn't have any plans for the holiday or the trailer. He did get a few more things done last weekend but the heat and wind was a little more than he wanted to deal with.
I found an AWESOME deal on stainless steel sheet yesterday... 60"x40" piece for .... wait for it.... $10!! The guy had bought a hole piece to do a few repairs on his roof.... had this huge piece left. I couldn't believe it. lol it's not all pretty and quilted like yours but hey.. can't beat that price.
Gotcha...didn't realize all were different colors. It's still a score! Yea, my best friend Lisa and I co-own this little vintage trailer together and we are only able to work on her on Sundays, so I completely understand about time. Honestly, I don't even have the time to work on her, although I do because I love doing it! (I own an antique store and I work 7 days a week...literally!)
What are you going to do tomorrow? Any plans for a specific thing for your trailer?
LOL that's would be good. Silver and white, antiques brass/bronze and white... and brass hinges. Yeah, I'll be painting them. I don't really like mixing metal colors. I'm mostly going for brushed nickle... the shiny silver is going to be iffy as it is.
The round knobs are probably not going to go in the trailer... unless I make a coat rack with them.
Yes, definitely a score. It will be a while, hubby doesn't get holidays off. So it's just weekends. Though I might spends some time in the trailer tomorrow, until it rains. lol
Sylvia,
SCORE!!! That is AWESOME!!! They look like they are porcelain. I can't wait to see!!! We've got more of the friction catchers to put up too...it was kinda boring to do..but we need to get on it! LOL! Are ya sure you wanna paint the hinges? They should match the knobs and look awesome!!! Ooohhhh.....how EXCITING!! You go girl!!! Good job!
