Wow, great job.  You turned that beer into champagne after all.  Congratulations.

My husband bought new rifle so I bought a camper. We looked all around for something fabulous but found that we have champagne taste on a beer budget. I was looking at our local Facebook online rummage sale site and there she was, a 1979 Aljo.  1200 dollars later she was mine. I knew that I wanted to gut and add my personal flare. What I did not know is how hard it was going to be. I have decided to copy and post some of my Facebook posts about my adventure…

4/7/12 Well, I got a call yesterday that my dinette cushions were finished, a full 2 weeks ahead of schedule. They look amazing!!! After taking a few days off we decided to tackle the “small” pipe break in the bathroom. It turns out the whole line is busted and yes it goes under the tub. I guess it was time to go to my favorite place in Aberdeen, Menards. We bought pex, fittings and zip ties. Our goal is to snake the pex under the tub and around the corner so we do not have to remove the tub. The logic makes sense but we will see if physics are on our side…wish us luck. Bill’s task today is to switch out all of the brown outlets with new white ones. Tony is on plumbing duty. I will be painting the new paneling. I am hoping that we can get some of the windows silicone and installed today.

5/27/12 Busy day in the camper today, we had separate projects. Well, where do I start out? The water heater is trashed and will needs to be replaced. We found a very cool small RV supply store in town with great customer service, low prices, and convenient prices,BONUS! We had to replace the toilet valve and the part was 45 bucks so we just bought a new toilet for 65, sometimes you just gotta splurge. I was on cabinet duty and I am feeling pretty accomplished. I bought cheap unfinished stock cabinets for Menards and I painted the chocolate brown. Then I hit them with an off white paint, 2 coats. Finally I sanded threw them to bring some of the brown out. We got one up on the wall before the drill decided that it was done. Bill was on caulk duty. He was a madman. If there was a seam it was caulked. The windows were hit again with this super stuff, hell it better be at 5bucks a tube. Come hell or high water all the cabinets ware going in, tomorrow.

August 29th, 2012   Well, it has been a while since I have updated you with the progress. I am pretty sure that if Bill could have burned it to the ground he would have. The risk would have been worth the reward in his eyes. But my womanly charm or what he calls bitching has worked. I had a hell of a time finding a fix for the broken/missing corner. I tried RV stores (several), custom welders, auto body shops, and custom sheet metal workers, it was awful. Note to self, next time start on the outside. I wanted to replace all four corners but oh well. Custom Sheet Metal in Aberdeen cut me a small 3ft section and turned it into a radius corner. Bill worked his magic and it fits like a glove. The flooring for the main part of the camper was my biggest steal. I bought a 12 X 12 remnant for 49 bucks; yep that’s was right 49 bucks. I used my other womanly charm, you know the one that Bill would see more of if he just voluntarily did some work in the camper (hence the need for striking). It did the entire thing. I tried to get Bill to cut the base moldings but he refused so I went out and did it my damn self. I must admit it but I am a BADASS and my 45’s were amazing. I did inside and outside corners. I did the damn thing!!! Oh, snap I forgot to mention the curtains. I went to the Salvation Army to just take a look and there they were, on a hanger 2 to a hanger (40 X 80 soft yellow Damask curtains) 1.99 a hanger. Those bad boys have now been cut in half and now I have curtains!!! We have water, electricity, but still no air. I am waiting to hear back on that.

It took 6 months and 2 days for her to be completed. Labor Day weekend we went on our first ever family camping adventure and it was AMAZING!!!
