Solved the fuel smell with the help of my brother today. There's been a strong smell back by the tank since I got it running. I wanted to take it to my daughter's softball game. We left, but the alternator belt was squeaking something terrible. Went back to my house and noticed fuel dripping by the rear axle. Blessing in disguise. Finally the problem made itself obvious. It was a loose hose clamp on the return line. I had to route and reroute that line several times before I was finally able to duplicate the factory routing. Well I guess I didn't tighten the clamp. My brother was kind enough to crawl under there and fix it. I agreed to let him borrow it some time, which is fair.

Now I have to find out why it's shredding alternator belts. Much better problem than a fuel leak though.

First time at the pumps in 7 or 8 years. Only put $100 in it. Should be enough to go on some jaunts a bit farther from home. Got new shocks and wheel bearings, too. I'm getting more confident with it.
