So my panel LEDs arrived from Hong Kong today. 48 SMD, "warm white". WOW what a difference. The color is perfect and they're really bright. I ordered a dozen more for all of the lights inside.
Thanks John. I was hoping someone with LED experience would chime in. I wanted to use LEDs for reduced power consumption, too. Despite the glow in the picture, they really are too dim to use in all the fixtures. I need to take them out and do something else.
I used one of those flat LED panels in a dome light in my limo and the difference was amazing. I may snag a couple for the existing fixtures to see how they look. If that doesn't work, I'll take your advice and search for fixtures.
Okay so I've tried several different 1156 replacement LED bulbs I've bought on Flea Bay and some are blue,,,,,,,,some are too dim and sort of orange,,,,,,,,,,,,HOWEVER the complete new dual 12 volt RV style LED LIGHT FIXTURES I bought that have the more clear (not the off color thin plastic) almost glass looking magnifier lens and the LED's are the flat units having a bunch of LED's on a circuit board sort of and they all face down AND THOSE ARE BRIGHT AND WHITE AND SUPERIOR TO ANY REPLACEMENT BULBS I TRIED. Once I found them I replaced several of my old light fixtures AND THEY WORK GREAT WITH BRIGHT WHITE LIGHT.
They use wayyyyyyyyyyyyy less current then the 1156 incandescents and produce more light also. In the bathroom if you had the vent fan on and turned on the old lights the fan slowed down quite a bit, however with the new LED's turniugn them on or off produces no noticeable fan speed reduction IE LESS VOLTAGE DROP
Im hesitant to post which lights I bought as the names and brands and vendors change almost daily on Flea bay so just do a search for RV LED Light Fixtures. STILL I can say for sure I havent found any 1156 replacement bulbs that had either the light output or color of the totally new fixtures with the glass looking magnifier lenses. HOWEVER its my opinion the replacement bulbs that are the flat type with all LED;s looking straight down are superior to the round bulbs. One last note, that blue isn't so bad if all the lights are LED and you get used to it, I have a few of them in some less used locations and they still light you up for far less electricity. Also, the main reason I use so many LED's is because Im into extensive Dry Camping maybe 7 days or so (before running out of fresh water and the black tanks being full of crap lol) and I therefore save all the battery energy I can, although with my 200 watts of rooftop solar and 460 amp hrs of battery storage (4 Golf Cart Batteries) its never really any issue whatsoever
Ol John T
It's a bit of an illusion. Took that pic with a really long shutter delay. But the LEDs are really bright, but give off a really cold (blue) light. I don't like it. Will be switching back to the 1156 bulbs until I can find a suitable replacement.
definetly bright.
Thanks Pat. Can't wait to snap some that aren't in my driveway!
