I retrofitted a chunk of hardwood one time for a customer. Made a knife rack where the blades just slipped behind the oven. Or you could stain wood and make your butcher block to match. then make a knife rack inthat...

Jim could you cut a piece of stainless and put a boarder around the stove, You could cut it the width of the space between the stove and the wall to the left of the stove top and bring that width all the way around to the other side. Make a template out of cardboard.

This is a pic from eye-level. You can barely see it, but it bugs me. The gap is 3/4". I'm thinking of just taking a piece of 3/4" plywood and cutting it to fit the hole and follow the contour of the range top. It would just sit down in there. I'd need to notch it for the gas line, but that's no big deal. The question would be how to finish it? Stain? Paint? Formica? Some other coating?

Unfortunately the stove has a frame around the front - it can't go back anymore. My brother's trailer has a spice rack in that spot - he said the same thing you did! Put a spice rack there.

It's tough to tell from the pic, but that's the back edge at the top. I would need to frame it out like Lakota suggested. There's a gap at the bottom (under the oven door) too, but it's small and you can't see it because of the trim.

You can add shims underneath,as long as you didnt create a gap at the bottom,, OR, take Trim and run a nice trim around the unit to add the finishing touch. Think picture frame,,,

I don't know - that's my dilemma. I put the camera directly above it so you could see it, but standing there it really isn't very noticeable. I'd like to get creative with filling it, though, if only to keep stuff from falling down in there.

How do you plan on filling in the gap?  I have a gap above our refrigerator and the POs cobbled in a piece of wood that does not stay in place.  So I could use some ideas.

Curious as to what some of you creative type people would do with this. I replaced my non-working, 30-year-old oven with a new Wedgewood Vision oven. I measured beforehand so I knew the new one was a bit smaller up top. You can barely notice it when you're standing there, but it bugs me. Plus stuff is going to fall in that hole. I'm not sure what sort of trim or filler I should put there, if anything.
