I have noticed a lot of RVes are needing/wanting a desk in their rigs,
I have looked at a few rigs with just the right work stations, a.k.a. desks.
One that caught my attention was a Flip down desk, from the wall. Was pretty ingenious when the owner was limited on space. It had a nice recessed box built in to hold his laptop in place when he flipped the desk back up for travel. He removed his dinette and used that space for his swivel recliner type chair. He would be comfortable watching TV in his chair, and then when he needed to work on his computer, he would just drop down the desk and was ready to go. His rig was a 30 foot class A with a tall roof, He was I believe 6'2' or right in that area and had plenty of room above his head, even with a ball cap. Most RV's have an average of 6ft and 7ft ceilings. With buying an older Rig, you can save hundreds if not thousands, and most of the quirks have been worked out. Now if you find one advertised with *had small leak near roof vent etc,, RUNNNNN,,, Not a jogging Run, But a full Onset 100 yard dash RUNNNNNNN. If you lose a shoe in the process,, don't look back just jump back in your vehicle, start it, D for drive and head outta dodge and let that Rig fade away in the rear view mirror. 90% of the so called *minor roof leaks turn into MAJOR restoration projects. If you have the time to do a full on roof replacement and sidewall repair, then you can consider it. Just remember you never get back what you put into an older Rig,, Luckily you can break even. The utmost joy of owning an older Rig,, is they are BUILT way better then the cookie cutter NEW stuff they are trying to pass onto consumers today.. There are a couple things to look for when looking at RV's in the forums on the left side of the web page.. Engine wise, its best to get a second opinion on the mechanicals and such. Just because its a 1985 Class A with 21,200 Miles Doesnt mean its a GEM..... What can kill and engine quickly IS NOT RUNNING IT,,, It sits for months and years at times, and when they do start them,, The engine is BONE dry, meaning all the lubricant is in the oil pan and the cylinders and valves are DRY. So as the engines starts to turn over is metal to metal till the oil pump gets the oil flowing,, same way with the water pump and power steering fluid. Thats why I recommend a second opinion on the mechanicals from a good mechanic. And if you do some redesign on the inside,,, Use your imagination,, make the interior work for you and be comfortable.
Sorry this is so long,, But I hope it will give you some good insight and remember,,, There IS a GEM out there just waiting for you to take it back on the road to enjoy the freedom and make memories.
God luck with your searches and welcome to GORV's.
Welcome Greg, I bought my old Class C off CraigsList and learned most of what I needed to know right here on GORV's. Just a good bunch of folks and information to help people like you and me find the answers to questions we need answers to.
