I am now the "proud" owner of a '70 Grumman motor home.  I have heard it said the two happiest days of an owners life is the day he buys it and the day he sells it.....well, today I am happy.

I first started by kicking out the two "human occupants", two dogs, and 12 rats (honestly....trapped the critters in sticky traps the first night).  I changed all fluids, lubed everything, bypassed the ugly gas in the original tank, added two new batteries and it started right up and is running reasonably well considering it has sat  for almost 3 years.  After I get it "home" I will start detailing and vacuuming out the rat nests (which are everywhere) and start the long, long "to-do" list.

Pray for me.....I think I need it.     Anxious to meet you all.  comments and help is greatly appreciated.

Rick  (sorry for the rambling a bit....will get used to blogging soon.    R)

Welcome richard. I'm thinking that the fixing is half the adventure. What a hoot. Camping in a vintage rv is the other half. You can't camp anywhere without some attention.
Looking forward to your pics and progress. And yes tranny is an acceptable term. Way to sound techy.......is techy a word?

Hi ,   some more info about the '70 Grumman.  87K miles, all service info documented from the time it was new to about 1999 (which is only 3K miles back).  It is on a Chevy (C30 ?) chassis with 350 engine and turbo hydramatic trans.  I have the original factory sticker that shows all the details.  Interior needs complete re-do.  The bath (molded fiberglass tub/shower) panels show no cracks and should restore with a little fiberglas polish and elbow grease.

The engine runs surprisingly well considering it was sitting for almost 4 years not running.  It back-fires a little when I ease into it but when I get a little more foot into it....it seems to like it better!  got 10 mpg on the first 50 mile trip from Acton (CA) to Burbank (CA).  It was a little gutless up hills but I was trying to keep speed down and did not down shift (not knowing what the tranny condition was).....is "tranny" proper word.....?....sounds like some cross dresser!

Plugging the open vacuum lines on the carb. should help it run and idle better.

Cleaning out the closet....I lifted up what I thought was a floor board ....and found the original dining table top (still in near new condition).  Pictures soon to follow....Regards to all,   Rick
