Good question. With the shop sticking in a 360 V8 and having it fail you would want to be extra cautious before repeating the problem. The 440 was luckily in a running chassis so I could start it, drive it under load and test her out before pulling it. There are a few basic issues when deciding to rebuild vs. just cleaning an engine up and re-installing. Check out the blog and I'll ramble on over there about the basic checklist and what to do at each stage of a project like this one.

Thanks for responding to the posts. I've been spending a lot of time on the engine because the "Long Hauler" is still stuck in outdoor storage in FL.

Pretty interesting stuff Danial, are you going to rebuild the 440 before sticking it in the Tioga?
