Travel trailer re-paint???

I would like to tackle repainting the outside of my RV. If you see my pictures it's
 A 30 ft fleet wood. I was thinking to remove windows etc  do a light sand in places
And maybe some paint thinners to clean the surface. After that I'm hoping to spray
White gloss of some kind using my handheld wager project sprayer. Any tips and what I should use to paint

Ben, there are several folks here who have taken on that big job. I have corresponded with fellow member Dickie Vaughn (http://www.goodoldrvs.com/profile/DickieVaughn?xg_source=profiles_f...) who did a complete repaint of his old motorhome, and it came out looking very good.

well forget the paint thinner, it will leave a film to cause the paint not to adhere very well. best to prep sand and do a clean with a pressure washer, this will insure all loose particles are gone and do a degreasing with tsp cleaner and a good rinse let it dry then paint.  i used an oil base paint on my eldorado and it has lasted quite a while and i get good reports from people who see it. redwing

thanks for the tips! lucky I haven't used any thinners yet, but does say on the can it can be used as pre-paint prep? I've decided to only repaint the stripe across the side since the rest of the RV is OK, the striping is oxidized from the sun and fading, so much so it comes off on your hands when you touch it. I think I'm going for a grey and silver striping something similar to match my truck I guess. This picture is when I first got the RV, so look tidier now minus the striping.

Whats your thoughts here, I've got a bunch of paint (spray cans) of gloss enamel. Think it should do the trick! Its getting of the old stripe first though? Sanding?

looks like your in quartzsite if you are they have stripes in rolls, in town. but you can paint them on as well, oil based works best, and like i say if you are in quartzsite the hardware store carries quite a few colors. even the dollar store has a few different colors. sanding or using heat like a propane torch to soften it up then use a scraper as you heat it. its probally only vinl anyway. but even if it is paint heat will get it soft.  redwing

Got the interior done, now its time for outside and bring his back to life!

the best way to have removed the old decal was to spray it with wd and let it soak in, then with something like a plastic putty knife raising the edge up while using a hair dryer set on high this would have left the undercoat on the rv, but oh well its done, anyway since your this far prime the bare area with some primer to seal the surface and then use a fine sandpaper to blend in the bare areas to areas where there is paint and then go back and paint the whole rv. if you do not feather the edges you will for ever see the lines for the old decal.

Hi there  well i went to a paint  body shop store and pick  up a little 4'"wheel by 3/4  made out of rubber its tan in color it fits in my 3/8 electric  drill  it removes labels and pin striping from aluminum  with out damage   than i used lacquer thinner to clean of the glue lacquer thinner does remove the paint but that's ok because i'm going to  repaint  it  anyways it work for me I hope this helps all post some picture from my camper  soon

Results so far! I'm still thinking Diamond Plate or Lighter Grey on the bottom! Also needs to be washed and re-waxed for a shine
