On our first trip out last year, we finished up, hooked up and headed home. About 60 miles were traveled at 55-65mph on 2-lane winding roads, narrow bridges, etc. On the way we decided to check out a small campground closer to home. As we slowed down to about 10mph and pulled into their drive, the whole trailer broke loose! Safety chains saved the day. Upon inspection, I had forgotten to install the pin in the receiver, so the whole ball and shaft pulled out. I still find it hard to believe it held together all that way and only came out as we slowed to a crawl. Thank God for beginner's luck.

OMG!  You must have the world's best Karma!!  Great rig!

Amazing how things work out! I have left the pin out of the receiver once or twice with our previous RV, luckily nothing adventurous happened though. I'm glad everything turn out okay for you guys. Was there any damage done at all?

The only damage was that the bottom of the hand crank jack was curled under a little bit. I've since replaced the hand crank with an electric jack. The groove in the asphalt at that junction is still visible.

This sure is a sweet looking set up.

Thanks Carl. We're getting ready to go on our first 'Vintage Camper Rally' in Terre Haute, Indiana in a couple of weeks. Should be over 100 campers there.

I like your "Star Trek" motor home, have fun with it!

Yikes!! I once had the camper pop off the ball on a back dirt road, I was very happy for the chains and no damage!  Sweet set up BTW!!
