no i think weak spark would be a weak coil, have you replaced the rotor?

new dist. and rotor

Did you disassemble and clean where the battery ground wire attaches to the frame?

Sorry to belabor the point, but there is also the ground strap from the frame to the engine that should be checked.

Did you ever get that beast running Manny?

hi richard, when i pull the shorting plug out i get spark to plugs.  i think there is no power to the computer or the computer might be bad. bought a new computer, rebuilt, but have feeling its not working. when i spray ether in carb it kicks over? any toughts on this ready to give up...manny

Hi Manny, I'm not familiar with newer vehicles with computers, so I may not be much help, but, in general if you have proper spark and gas it should run. First, "when I pull the shorting plug out I get spark to plugs", I don't understand what is going on with this?  Is there only one plug that is shorting out?  Have you switched wires and plugs around and only that same one is shorting?  Does it spark properly when unscrewed from the engine and held against a grounded piece of metal on the engine?                                                                                    "When I spray ether in the carb it kicks over" Does this mean that it runs until the ether is used up?  When it's not running, can you look in the carb and see gas squirting from the jets when you pump the accelerator?

Hi,

Sounds like your shooting in the dark here.  Maybe this will help.  First, do you have a repair manual?  Second, 1991 460, fuel injected or carb?  1991 will have a ignition computer for spark.  If it's fuel injected it will also have a computer/ECM for the engine/fuel system.  Ford uses a TBI or throttle body injection system a lot.  Looks like a carb but uses a single injector.  Really need to know what type of fuel system were talking about.  If ether will will make it sputter then it sounds like fuel.  Let me know and I can give a direction to go.  Here to help if we can, Tony, Joy and Cool Paw Luke

got it going! wiring problem...just took time to track it down..thanks everyone!  manny
