Have a 1964 Metzendorf.  Do most people keep the old water tank, replace it or get rid of it entirely to have more storage space?

Also, I purchased a 2 burner gas stove for the camper but now I am wondering how often I would really use it.  I know most people tend to not cook in their campers.  Just wondering how often everyone may use theirs?

Does it have an old galvanized tank?  My 59 Siesta has one and I also wondered about replacing it.

As for the stove, I've used mine with the kids a number of times- especially when the weather isn't so great outside. I try to do the 'big' cooking outdoors but the inside stove is nice for making popcorn, hot chocolate, and other quick simple stuff.  Once the kids are grown up though, I'm not sure how often I would really use it...

It does have an old galvanized tank.  I can't imagine after all these years what may be growing inside of it.  I think it has some sort of lining in it but I am sure it needs sterilized and such.  Don't know if if is worth the trouble.  May just remove it and do a direct hookup at the site.  If dry camping would have to haul some water.  As for the stove, I kinda figured the same thing, itf the weather was crappy, might be nice to have it.  Thanks for your input.

If it were mine Id toss the old galvanized tank and go on Flea Bay and buy a new plastic tank.

My older 95 Class C, like most Class C's built, came with 40 gal fresh water storage and 40 gal grey water storage. Welllllllllll we do a ton of dry boondock camping so under the bed (yes it took some storage space) I added an additional 30 gal of fresh water,,,,,,,,,,,then I removed the spare tire under the mid frame and hung it on the rear bumper and under there I hang another 30 gal for grey water storage,,,,,,,,THEN I added one more 40 gal fresh water up on the roof engineered so the weight was on the sides NOT roof middle,,,,,,,so now I can carry 110 gal fresh water, store 70. I also have a Thetford Electra Magic 85 recirculating toilet which saves big time on water use. NOTE I DO NOT carry all that extra weight all over the USA if Im gonna be dry camping I fill them all right before the camp. I do have Load Range E 10 ply tires at 80 PSI and similar rated wheels. I have three 125 AH batteries (375 AH total)  and a roof top solar panel so we can dry camp around 7 to 10 days before we have to find water and a dump station

  Go plastic

Thanks everyone for your input.  As I just stated the other day, this is my first time back on the website for a while.  I am still deciding what I am going to do about the galvanized tank. Does anybody just take them out all together and do direct water hookup?

Mary Ann,
I recommend you replace it. Two reasons, first if you only can hook up to a water source you limit your ability to camp. Last year on a trip our supply line as it feeds into the camper blew, we simply filled the tank and kept camping. Second, you need water to flush your tanks when you dump them. Without a water tank you will always be running a water hose through your camper to flush. Just my thoughts.

John

I use my stove pretty much every trip out!
