i have a 1989 winnebago chieftain that the electric steps will not work all the time. when they stop there is only a clicking sound simular to a bad car solenoid or dead battery. all three batteries are full charged. can never tell if the will work are not. any suggestions.

There has to be a solenoid, for lack of the proper term, that controls the steps on extending and retracting. I would look around the motor area of the steps for a relay or something similar that could be going bad. It may well be that the motor itself has all the workings built right in and the whole motor is going bad.
thanks for your reply. i have dealt with this issue for some time now, very confusing. it will stop and start working like you turn a switch on and off. for the past several wks it has not failed even once. but just as quickly it will stop. i was just looking at some manual steps when i saw your reply. my be my best option considering the places it decides not to work like getting gas. have to disconnect from motor and tie up steps. not as easy when you get older, any way thanks again.
