Hey Everyone! Brand new lovers of vintage camp trailers! We recently purchased a 15' 1962 Robin Hood Cadet Coach camp trailer and we have been looking all over to find any pictures of this kind...but we can't seem to find more than two! Does anyone know where we can find some more info on our new baby? Also, does anyone know where on earth we can find the VIN number, rather than getting a new one issued? Thanks so much!

I just got a 1961 robin hood cadet. I'll share pictures of mine with you.

I have just purchased a 1962 Robin Hood. It is a restoration project. I have tried, unsuccessfully, to locate a vin number. I have tried unsuccessfully to find any history of these trailers. Like you information is very hard to come by.

If you should stumble upon anything that would shed light on these ghost trailers, please let me know.

Thanks, and good luck.

Hey you guys. I cant find a vin number on my Robin Hood either. I am begging to think these trailers are few, and far between. I looked at my title, and there is a vin number. but I cant match it up with anything. It is interesting that the vin number is only 6 characters. Maybe trailers are different then a vehicle.

Someone posted that he /she knew of just five Robin Hood trailers. and one of those was scrapped. Funny how much drama follows these rather bland trailer.

Keep in touch, the games a foot!

Steve

I went to a web site that tracks rv vin numbers. Paid the 3.00 dollars, to access it. And yup. My trailer vin number was not found. So I am going to the local DMV, tomorrow, and see what they can tell me.

It is a bit disconcerting, if your trailer vin, is not on a data base. Makes these Robin Hood trailers all the more mysterious. The Ghost Trailer.

The plot thickens.

Steve

Unfortunately Steve, there is a vast number of manufactures that come and go and there wasn't a means to track them all. I don't know even today if there is a central registry for campers. I do know there have been a few folks on here that have had issues with vin's and Titles. One such person is Lakota Wolf. his situation was a bit different but the end result is similar enough that he may be able to give you some advice. You may want to PM him or get just get on the chat at the bottom of the page. he's on most evenings and is a wealth of info on trailers. good luck too you and the other Robin Hood owners.

Thanks Rich. I sent you a email from my email, but am not sure if it will reach you.

So let me just recap a bit. I am wondering if Robin Hood trailers may have been built by another company. Something like company X contracts with company Y to build their trailers. Company Y builds it, slaps a sticker on it. And company X is selling trailers? And Robin Hood is traveling through the glen?

I am attending the vintage trailer rally, this June in Roslyn Wash. Hopefully I can get some information there.

My title has a vin number. I paid 3 bucks to access a trailer vin search site. Typed in the 6 digit vin number. Came back as not found. So, because I am the curious sort, and have no life, I am headed to the local DMV. office. Maybe their data base will shed some light on this mysterious Robin Hood trailer.

Someone once said, swing the bat long enough, and you are bound to hit a ball!

Thanks,

Steve

Funny that. I once played on a softball team. It was sponsored by Rolls Royce, who was supplying Boeing with their RB-211 engines. The team was called the Silver Wraiths. Still have that ball hat!

We were anything but silver. I think we lost 6 games, tied one, and got ejected from one.

I was told to look on the frame for the VIN number. I also have a 1962 Robing Hood. As about 98% of the frame is covered with trailer, that leaves just the tongue. I wire brushed the thing, and still couldn't come up with a VIN. However my title does have a 6 digit VIN number. Looking all over the internet yielded no VIN number found. So I went to the DMV, with the title. The agent clicked, and clacked, and found that my trailer had moved through several owners.

That is all they could tell me. I asked If I could contact a previous owner, and see if I could find any more information. But they were not able to give me that information.

So close, yet so far. It sounds as if your title does not have a VIN number? How does that square with the DMV, when it comes to a title transfer? Hmm?

Best of luck.

Steve

Vin # on my 61 is on the top of the right side of tongue about 6 inches from cabin and only 3 inches long, right side is from the back and most campers have vin# stamped here.Try with a flashlight at different times of the day as this stamp is small and not very deep. Wire brush helps and hopefully nobody has used a grinder on the layers of paint or it may be lost.

Thanks Eric. So what do you know of the history of these Cadet Coach trailers? I contacted Tim Hihes, and he had some information.

According to Tim, Robin Hood built the model, Cadet Coach in Arlington Wash. Tim supplied me with a copy of a local newspaper, that mentioned a new company had moved into the area. Around 1962.

Then is appears that they may have discontinued building that model. And moved the company back to Michigan. Where they built trailers up into the 70's. The Cadet Coach might have been built in a very small window of time.

I have had mine for about a year, and have completely restored the interior. It has been fun, and exasperating at the same time.

I would be interested in knowing what you know about the Cadet Coach. I will say I have attended a few vintage trailer rally's on the west coast. And there is very little information on them.

Thanks for your help.

We have been restoring a 1961 Robin Hood Cadet and would love to see any photos you have of yours.  Ours came with paperwork and a VIN # but we have not located the vin anywhere on the actual camper.
