Hi All,
I have a 1969 Beeline Travel Trailer with 15" 6 Lug Wheels.
I need to get a spare wheel and tire, but when I gp to order one they ask if it is 5.5 or 6" width?
How do I determine this?
Will I have to remove the tire to measure the wheel?
Will it really make a difference?
Thanks in advance for your help?
Fred

I believe they are asking you the width between the lugs. Measure from center of one to center of the next. You can do this with the wheel on the trailer.
Thanks Mr. Harrison.
As soon as I get it back from the shop I'll try that and let you know.
I really appreciate you response.
Fred
They are asking for the width between the tire beads. It is going to be tough to tell the difference with the tire mounted without a bead checker. Anyplace that have a spin balancer will have a big plastic caliper that clamps around the tire and will give the width. What you need is from the area where the bead sits down on the outside in to the same on the inside. If you measure from the inner edge of the rim surface out to that point and then fro the outer edge of the same rime surface out to the same spot on the other side and add those to measurements together minus an eighth inch for the thickness of the rim center that should get you real close.
Some trailer rims will even be stamped on the rim somewhere 15 X 5.5JJ or similar.
The lug spacing will all be the same.
Hi Mr. Faunce,
Thank you so much for your advise.
Fred
Hi Fred here is a link to jegs.com It will tell you everything you would ever need to know about wheel measuring. http://www.jegs.com/images/wheelmeasureguide.pdf just copy and paste it to your browser.
