Brakes on 1967 Winnebago

Hi all. I just purchased a '67 Winne model F-17. She's got 56k and runs like a dream. BUT the brakes are soft and I can't find the master cylinder.

It's not under the drivers side, or just behind firewall.

Could it be in the rear?

Hi Karl,

     I don't know much about a Winnebago, but the brake pedal has to be attached to the master cylinder or booster by a push rod. Check your pedal linkage and see where it goes.What chassis is under yours? I am sort of an expert on Internationals, but am just guessing on others.   Sincerely, Kirk Hoffman

This is a Ford. I found the push rod: its directly under the steering wheel. It goes into a black box with a rubber boot on top. I don't know if that's called a master cylinder or not, but not what I was looking for. I've bled the front brakes by pouring fresh fluid under the boot.

Not sure if this helped yet or even how good the 4 drum brakes should be anyway on a 50 year old rv.  As is very dead feeling.

Hi Karl,
I do believe the "black box" is the master cylinder, but it is a strange one. Is there a plug in front of the rubber boot on the top? If so that would be the filler, I think you might have a single system where there is only one circuit in the master. I don't know when Ford came out with the dual systems. Is there a brake booster on the frame somewhere? maybe more pics would help. Keep me posted. Kirk

I'm not seeing any opening to the system besides the opening where I take the boot off.

Good advice Kirk. The Ford P350 that Winnebago used back than could have a frame mounted or a body mounted brake master cylinder with flex lines to the frame.
