How to paint an Interior Plastic A/C cover? Anyone have suggestion

We have a ceiling mounted a/c unit and the plastic cover is discolored from age.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to paint it where it will not peel?  I know there is  paint specifically for plastic but I'm not sure how well it works.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.

I am not sure how big of an area you are talking about but I used the new plastic spray paints (Krylon for one) out on the market and have had reasonably good results- it was for a chair in my hubby's garage so it gets abused and I've only seen a loss of paint on the arm ends and at edge of seat. (this was also about 4 years now so more are out on the market and probably even better)
I, for one, have used Ceramacoats (art/craft stores) acrylic glass/ceramic paint on odd furniture and hard to paint surfaces and been very happy. You do have to hand paint- or use one of those little sponge rollers, but I've used it for clients and its been a good match- remember, I have to guarantee my work as a decorative artist! I would clear coat too- afterward, with a corresponding product.
Take a very fine sandpaper and give it some tooth too beforehand-nothing to make marks-just tooth.
Hi Kim,
The Krylon paint for plastic is ok but no better than regular spray paint in my opinion. If you use a primer(I use zinser primer) any spray paint will work. You can also buy spray primers.
We painted the back interior plastic wall area of our 1964 dodge travco with "RV White" Krylon plastic spray paint and it turned out great.

I always use TSP(trisodium phosphate cleaner) to clean any surface that needs to be preped before painting. Then I use rust-oleum primer and rust-oleum paint(best not to use diffrent brands of primer and paint). The larger industerial cans seem to work a lot better than the regular size. And it applies better in my opinion.
Krylon makes a a spray paint especially for plastic. I've used it with good results for outdoor furniture, so it should work on your A/C. Buy it at Home Depot.
Your local auto paint supply has a product called Bulldog, this is specific to prepping a plastic surface and then second coat with a dye paint that can also be had at the auto paint store anything else will come off under normal cleaning and will chip easily if not painted correctly. Most auto paint supply stores can also custom mix just about any color and put it in a spray arasol can. The Bulldog product does something to the surface of the plastic that allows the new color dye to adhere for good, I swear buy Bulldog and will not use anything else.

Good luck!
