Ok guys help me understand this gremlin.
1976 Dodge 360 cid runs great. Need a spare ignition module for peace of mind while traveling. I have tried 4 different new ones and not one of them will start the rig. Put back in old one and runs great. Two different manufactures and not one of the four will start. Going to try a Napa one today.
Your thoughts please.

JAck Wasmuth, We are gonna need all the info you have. Quick answer. go to NAPA, pay close attention for the word "superseded".
Yes sir I know all about the superseded or updated part numbers. Just went to O'reilly auto parts to get a Borg Warner module and the manager said let's test it first, and guess what? Yep it failed. Brand new one failed their test. Manager said she was ordering in 5 of them, 3 the same as the one we tested and two of a different manufacturer. Cross your fingers.
Jack Wasmuth, Right where I was headed. Sounds like that manager is on the ball. I would also pay NAPA a visit.
Napa has a NO return policy on electrical parts.
Have the same issue. My original 5 pin works fine, but the two new ones, Duralast and NAPA will not start. They are Los 5 pin. The ballast resistors are fine, check yours. Early 5 pin modules require a dual ballast resistor. Later 4 pin modules do not.
Not sure if they re all Chinese junk or what.
going to find out.
Dave
That is what I found also, Nine new modules would not start my engine. That is why I changed to a HEI system. All parts are Chevy and all auto parts stores carry the parts. $125. approx. gives me peace of mind.
