Has anyone tried installing laminate flooring?  If so, I'd be interested in any "lessons learned".

Lowes sell the planks that use the self adhesive strip, not sure of the brand name. I just found they only carried 3 types in stock but may be what your looking for. Dont be to affraid of laminate also, just leave enough space for expansion and contraction on the edges, which gets covered by base moulding anyway.

I'm thinking of going with laminate flooring instead of the vinyl planks.  I have installed it before and find it easy to keep clean. Also, with so little needed for my trailer.
The floors all look fantastic!  There is definitely some laminate in our future!  Might even put it in the '04 5er that we live in!
I used the sticky Square vinyl stuff from Lowe's on my 78 winne, would add spray adhesive, if doing it again.  I have the laminate to do a my 68 with.  These old beasts have a lot of movement and the Laminate provides the flex needed and easy to install and clean.

We used the "pergo" like material that Costco sells.. found out that there are no straight lines or square corners in the RV.. and hubby had to hand make the trim... but works beautifully with 4 dogs... we live in MD so cold winters and hot summers... no issues. It was snap together with an underlayment foamlike stuff.... we love it

I installed laminate in our little camper. I had already installed it in my house. I think it was quicker to do a couple large rooms in my house than it was to do in the camper. Small space with a lot of cuts and corners. But, we are very happy with the finished product.
I just installed laminate in my 1966 Beeline. I think it looks great.
OK . In reading this thread , I have a question or ten of course . Does the laminate planks need to be glued together to prevent seperation ? I was in HD this moring looking at some laminate planks . The T&G planks look quite shady on baing able to stay together and for sure I'd like to avoid gluing it to the floor . I already have rolled vinyl down that I'm gonna use as the underlayment .

PLEASE ADVISE !

ragzdaddy,

you know, those t&g joints on laminate do a pretty good job.  there is a bit of locking effect in how they are cut and assembled, and once in place the main purpose is only to keep this in position relative to each other - no real strength needed.  so no glue needed and also makes it relatively easy to change out.

Hi, I'm new to the forums. We installed Pergo in our 1984 Winnebago and I also installed it in my In-laws 1988 Itasca. I have to agree with it being quicker to install in the house. One thing that I tried to do was to make sure that the floor could float freely. All my furniture and fixture do not mount directly on top of the floor. Everything in mount to the sub floor and the laminate was carefully cut out around each mounting point. By doing this there is no point in the floor that it is pinched directly against the sub floor and allowing free movement for expansion. We completed the floor a little over a year ago and have logged about 3,000 miles since then and have had no issues. Another comment that I agreed with on a previous post is that it looks better when it is installed lengthwise. Here are a couple of photos of our install:

Looks great! My hardwood install hasn't fared as well as I hoped, has moved and separated but on that note still looks 100 times better than before! will stick with laminate in the future as they lock together, expand and contract better with movement (note to anyone reading - locking planks or adhesive planks is a better way to go)..
