I'm just about finished the major work on my Beeline and ran into something else. I was trying to figure out the next thing to start working on. I was looking over the jack and tongue when i found a couple of large holes in the A-frame. One hole is about 5 inches long and the other is about 3 inches. I looked over the rest of the frame and this is the only place that has rust. My neighbor is a welder and can fix it but, I was wondering if I can weld in patches or replace the whole thing? I towed the camper home without any issues but this was only a few miles and I didn't go over 40 mph. I wanted to post a few pix but, they are on the bottom of the frame and I couldn't get a good shot.

 Any Idea of cost?

Hi Brian, If the metal just has surface rust on the rest of the A-frame, then you can just sandblast or grind it down to bare metal and weld in some plates to cover the holes. Using channel steel would be best, so you could get the most strength all the way around the frame, but it's not essential. One flat plate on either side of the crack/hole will suffice. i would extend the patches at least a good 6'' to either side of the perimeter of the hole. You can also drill some holes in the plates further in toward the hole your covering so your welder can stitch the plates there for more strength. The alternative is as Pat has mentioned and just have your welder friend fab up a new A-frame, or buy one and have him weld it in. I hope I've helped you in some way, and wish you the best! Oh! As far as price, call up a local steel supplier and give him a list of what you want (after you measure up everything). He'll give you a price based on the current price of steel.
