1972 Pace Arrow 4 Replies

Hi everyone. Anyone else familiar with my "new" 1972? All experiences and/or information appreciated! I'm excited, but maybe in over my head. My saving grace is the previous owner - a retired…Continue

Howdy! Anybody else own one of these beasts? I'd love to compare notes about electronics, switches, décor, and everything else! I'm a first time RV owner so I'm new to the world. Thanks in advance!Continue

Thanks for the info. I found all the wires pulled on the heater system. That has me thinking. I am going to hook up all the wires and test the fuse. Need to find out if the motor is any good. Thanks again.

I use my heater on all night,, its controlled by the thermostat and runs its cycles.. But,,,,, To be sure and give you a piece of mind,, I ran my gas heater during the day while I was awake listening and *sniffing, ( for gas fumes or something burning). Just to make sure it worked properly. Plus I have a gas and smoke detector that work. Now remember, the gas furnace runs off 12 volt D/C.......  NOT 110/120 v a/c. And your 12 v. blower motor is on a 15 amp 12v, auto fuse,,, If motor gets over heated or shorts it blows the fuse,,and if your fire box gets to hot or rapid fluctuation of your gas,, the safety cut offs are in place to shut everything down in your furnace... When you fire up your furnace, make sure all your vents are blowing air,,, to make sure you didnt get a mouse building a nest in the ducting. We also use electric heater to take the chill out of the air when its NOT sub zero antartic freezing cold,, cheaper then running gas furnace.

Thanks Lakota. I will take plenty of pictures. I do have a question. The central heat system, is it safe enough for the most part to leave on all night? Should I use electric heaters. The wiring is over 30 years old and of  coarse so is the heater. Any suggestions?

Dean. If your outside skin is good and sealed, you can do a rebuild of the walls while still occupying your rig. I just tackled a section at a time. You just have to arrange living conditions as each section is completed. You can do it. You have the drive and determination. Good luck buddy. Take pictures as you go, it's always a plus seeing how other RV,ers tackled the tasks at hand along with tips and secrets.

Water leaks are done. Just in time as it got down to 32 degrees last night. Have started making the "Spring Challenge List". Some of it is rather difficult in that we live in it full time and I have some walls to rebuild, (motel time) and changing out water lines I do not like. There is a list one mile long but it will be done. Looking forward to starting.

I will be taking possession of a 1989 35' Pace Arrow. My wife and I will be full timing. I will have to take some pictures and post them here. The current pic, of course is not it. I will get that changed out as soon as possible. I am so glad to see a Pace Arrow group and have great hopes we will be able to share alot of information.

Stephanie---your 1972 Pace Arrow is very nice ---I wish our 1972 was in good shape again---did you restore it to that condition or was it just taken excellent care of? what motor does it have?--mine has the 318v8--we haven't driven ours in over 15 yrs so the drivetrain may be fine still but the structure may be in unrepairable condition---I will have to evaluate it to know--again it is very nice to see yours and know that some are still in good condition--do you take it on long trips?--our last long trip was 5200 miles in 11 days and had no problems----thanks---Dave

Hi--just seen that there was a Pace Arrow group so thought I would join since I still have a 1972 20'----it is parked and I will have to do a lot of repairs to get it back on the road again----my problem is that I have so many interests and am getting older and slower----the problems are in the structure and weak and leaking roof---the running gear had no problems when I parked it about 15 years ago---it has the 318 v8---anyway now the group has 3 members----I never seen the answer of how old Chad's nice RV is----Dave

Just saw this group pop up and wanted in. I have a 85 Pace Arrow with the 454 in it, have had it for 2 weeks now and have given it a thorough cleaning inside and out, checked the roof for leaks (are none) tightened the belts as it was squeaking, replaced the light bulbs with LED's. Just discovered the under couch drawer and have been wondering how to get the vacuum accessories out and now I know, there was also a starter heat shield in there as well as new vac bags (have to look at the vac as its not sucking any air) . Also scored on a set of rim covers to replace my original poor shape ones (these things are hard to find in 19.5 Next month Ill be getting new tires. Carb was having issues with the secondaries not opening so Ive soaked it in a carb cleaner and guess what, no more sticking secondaries. I have much to do on this but over all its in pretty good shape. Cant figure out how to get the front A/C working, have flipped the switches inside the cupboard, have switched to generator and nothing.Have a soft spot on the floor but its not tragic as I want to yank the carpet and replace with hard wood and have a friend who worked in the rv repair business thats willing to help me.
