Anyone around know the rules concerning child/ infant car seats in an RV? I have 24ft class C. I want to install brackets for a car seat.

After looking at the Federal Register for about an hour I got a head ache! there is so much info on there that it would drive a common man insane. like CRF 49 sub part this and that but, only if this other thing applies. And see definition bla as it refers to sub part F when sub part L is in agreement with part C. Little wonder why the government eats up our tax money. So I done some Googling around to several sites like Jeggs, Amazon, and a few others. finely came across this sight http://www.wescoperformance.com/rv-seat-belts.html. They sell seat belts for the RV consumer. they have a lot of kits and information on how to install them and all the requirements of the DOT are already addressed; you can save a bunch of money on head ache pills alone and, feel reasonably safe when installing the seat belts. I hope this is of use to you Troy good luck with your project. PS. just left click the web address high light it by dragging the pointer across it making sure you include the complete address. you can then right click on the highlighted address; a menu will open and you can select go to http.... and you will be taken to the sight. You probably know all that but some folks of our aren't so computer savvy and as I mentioned it is a very important subject and I hope more folks will take a read of it.

I think this is an important subject Troy. I have some free time tomorrow and I think i will try to find out more info. maybe there is some suggestions out there that shows how to reinforce the anchor points or what type of bolts say grade 5 vs grade 8. My son did say that the Graco Snuggleride was the safest car seat on the market. I'll get back with what ever I turn up.

Thanks for that help, I appreciate the effort. I guess I'll add seat hooks like those in our Yaris, so i can cinch it down tight. IF I hear of any other info I'll post it.

So after talking with my son, he is unaware of any rules or law that singles out RV's concerning baby seats. He told me as long as they are installed per the seat manufacture requirements you satisfy any requirements that he is aware of. He works with crash testing of all types and does trauma analysis at a major university with cadavers. In our conversation he mentioned possibly looking at what car manufactures are required to provide as far as restraint attachment to the vehicle. Hope this helps a little

That is a very good question. I would (and I hate the word) assume, unless there is a federal law covering it,That it would be state by state and therefore confusing at best. I have a son who works in transportation safety, I'll see him later today and ask if he knows of anything specific; If not, he may be able to point you in the direction you need to go to find out.
