1989 Itasca Sunflyer

I am in the process of buying a 79 Itasca Motorhome. It needs some repair over the bedroom where the owner states a water leak is coming in around some bolts near the rear air. It has 50,000 miles on it with a transmission replaced in the last 3 years or so. Owner died now owned by the son and he doesn't use it. Gonna buy it really reasonable. The unit needs tires and etc. 

Anybody want to share their experiences with one of these.

There are several posts on roof leak repairs in our search box upper right corner of page,, Roof leaks are never fun,,The water likes to sneak down the walls to the flooring  so expect that issue to come up,, Check the walls down the sides of the RV from where the leak is,, If your handy and have the resources,,the repairs can be done,,,If you can, get some pictures and post and other member here will chime in and help you along,,

I'm sitting at the desk in my '84 Sunflyer now.

When I bought it, the aluminum roof had been leaking for may years.

I sealed hundreds of pinholes in the aluminum skin with white Kool Seal elastomeric roof coating and re calked the AC and roof vents.

I removed most of the interior cabinets leaving only the closet and fridge.

I coated the floor with Killz and put down sticky tiles that were on clearance at Lowes.

I cut new counter tops out of a 4x8 sheet of 1/2" CDX laminated with Formica that Lowes had in the $2.00 pile.

I trimmed any rough edges in oak and re installed all of the appliances after cleaning and repairing.

The only thing I didn't fix was the oven main gas valve and the fridge main board eventually died.

I have a cheap 110v apartment size fridge and freezer now.

I replaced the faucets with regular cheap household fixtures.

I replaced the black and grey water valves and replaced the shower sink trap (frozen and cracked by roof leak). 

I deleted a lot of dubious overlay wiring and a remotely mounted aux heater and 12' of heater hose.

1/3 of the roof SIPs are in bad shape still and the floor has a soft spot.

I will probably never do a complete restoration since there are no more leaks and the saggy roof doesn't really bother me unless I'm walking on it.

It's a huge amount of work to completely replace the roof and floor SIPs.

Just my half hearted resto took a month.
