We got dumped on again with rain yesterday. So while I was working on the MMP today getting the front AC unit working I noticed some water around the rear bunk beds. Come to find out the latches that hold the escape window closed both broke. So the wind lifted the window and the rain came in--and much like Pooh, our bedroom was receiving an abundance of floodier and floodier.
We are suppose to have more rain so Duck Tape came to the rescue. [Commercial break] Duck Tape is one of the RVers main repair items. It is used more often than bailing wire and zip ties. As a gentle reminder to everyone, be sure to keep at least 24 rolls in your RV at all times--and BTW it is cheaper to buy the tape by the case instead of by the roll [end commercial]. Hi-Ho Silver Tape (or in this case gray) rode in and got the window sealed giving me time to hunt down the illusive window clamps and get them replaced. Now I am pondering the possibility of putting thin weather stripping around the window and bolting it shut permanently. I think that grade-8, 3/8 inch bolts with fender washers and self locking nuts might be enough to hold it in place. Then again I may just leave the Duck Tape in place, maybe painting it black to match the frame, and replace the tape every other year. Decisions, decisions!
The pictures show the escape hatch. Why it is called that is beyond me. There is no way anyone over the age of 15 could climb out that 22x28 inch opening. Whoever thought that one up did not take into account the possibility of adults actually being inside this thing and may actually have to get out in case of a fire. I am just not too knowledgeable about the 10-15 crowd anymore. Maybe they do drive around in HMs instead of growing up in a normal houses anymore.
I did succeed at getting the front AC unit going again. Bad 20 amp circuit breaker. Cannot figure out why it would fail as it was only 31 years old. Guess stuff is just not made like it was in the good old days of the 60s and 70s.
Anyway, tomorrow will be spent tackling the front overhead cabinets to get them out so I can start replacing the ceiling and the right front wall by the passenger seat. Probably will be another round of "OMG what is this doing here" and "Why did they do that that way"? Engineers (Redneck pronunciation) have some strange ideas that no one in power seems to question. Is this because they are afraid to look stupid to their subordinates? or is it because they just do not care that something that looks good on paper has ZERO relativity to real life? Another thought to ponder while contemplating everything from the universe to one's navel and why lint always gets trapped in it.
Take care all and have safe travels.

Instead of the 3/8ths inch bolt,, I would go with a grade 5,, 11/16ths,, Go big or go home is what I always say..
