Hello,

We are beginners at traveler towing and setting up camp so please excuse this question but is there a check list for towing and setting up camp with a travel trailer? We have  a 1970 Fan Style Liner that we are restoring and hope to travel with some day but we unsure of all the steps we need to take before leaving home.

Thanks

Oops I meant to say trailer towing no traveler towing

after 2 years full time something we use a lot is a small plastic box I labeled sticky stuff it contains an assortment of adhesives/epoxies to patch something quickly, tape (eternabond) since we have a rubber roof, etc) Will you full time or just occasionally camp?

Before leaving *home,,,, make sure your home is secured for starters. As for the RV,, make sure wheel bearings are greased and torqued, wheel lugs are tight and the rubber is good. Make sure anything, and I mean anything that is loose is secured. Hitch assembly is snug and properly hooked up, incl, safety chains. All the lights work, and if trailer has elect, brakes, that they work. It it wise to carry a basic tool box with misc, assortment of tools and zip ties, electrical tape, and dont forget duct tape. An assortment of fuses and tail light bulbs, clearance light bulbs etc. Be sure your shore power cord, fresh water hose and sewer hose in tucked away and secure. Spare pieces of 2x6 boards for putting under the wheels when parked, and Dont forget wheel chocks. Carry some bottled water. Along with dry goods for the meals on your trip. After you first set out on your trek,, drive a couple miles and pull off and do a walk around visual check of the hitch assembly and wheel lugs, (Checking wheel bearings, you can cup your hand without actually touching the wheel hub to see if hot,, warm is normal, Hot is not). And each fuel stop or snack stop, do a quick walk around and double check everything to make sure all is good.

At a camp site amke sure wheels are chocked and rv is level, when hooked up to shore water, have a pressure regulator attached to regulate water pressure so you dont blow any water lines. If you have an awning,,, Dont leave it out if your going to be away from the RV.. Dont forget a couple lawn chairs to relax out under the stars.

There is more I could tell you, but thats a rough starting point that covers the basics for you... Hope this helps a little,,,, L.W.
