what is the difference between the rv toilet that has the door at the bottom of the long neck before it goes into the tank and the one that doesnt have a long neck? is one better than the other?
we are thinking about changing the toilet and were just wondering

I'm not understanding "door at the bottom" There is a difference in regular versus high rise RV toilets, the high rise is maybe 5 inches taller. If theres like a box about 5 inches tall the toilet sits on that's regular height but if it fits flat on floor that's a high rise. For no more then they cost I recommend a CHINA TOILET as they are just cleaner and slicker then plastic bowls. MEASURE HEIGHT FROM FLOOR AND REPLACE WITH A SAME HEIGHT UNIT...

All RV's should have a slide (close) valve. And as John T mentioned, A China,(Porclean) toilet is the KING,, easier to clean, more sturdy and will last many more yrs over a plastic.
Bill, there were RV toilet's back in the 50's and early 60's that had a pull out drawer at the bottom. Can you post some photo's?
i guess i am talking about the slide valve.the water in the bowl has to fill this long tube about 5 or 6 in long before it fills the bowl. are the toilets with the slide valve close to the bowl better? do they use less water? since i would be only filling the bowl and not the tube too. the toilet sits flat on the floor.
I put a high-rise china bowl in mine - a Dometic 310. It replaced a flat, Thetford model. The valve is at the bottom of the bowl (obviously) but there is no "neck" (or tube) that fills before the water gets in the bowl. It flushes like a regular toilet with a swirling action that supposedly uses less water because it cleans faster. The flush leaves an inch or two of water in the bowl to keep smells from coming up from the tank. Bowl height is nice and the china is sturdy.
