I want to add an A/C to my little Beeline and was wondering if I should just cut the metal or try to put a window unit in a existing window opening? I would rather not cut but, I can't seem to find a small enough A/C to fit in the existing opening. So, if thats the case then why not just punch a new opening in the back where there isn't any windows now? Down the line if I sell it will this be a bad thing?

Brian, I have the same problem. I want air condition but I don't want a modern air unit sitting on top of a 1966 camper. I think it would look out of place. I hate the thought of putting a unit in a window, especially since all my windows (and probably your's too since you also have a Beeline) have jalousie stlye windows. I came up with a plan that I think will solve all of these problems. I am going to do this sometime soon. Since I have removed all propane from my trailer, I have open space on the tongue of my trailer. I am going to purchase a small window type air condition, cut an opening at the bottom of the wall under the dinning room table. The air unit will slip through the wall and rest on the outside where the propane tanks were previously located. I plan to enclose the outside part of the unit to make it appear like a "built-on" storage box on the tongue. One side will be hinged so I can open it when the air unit is turned on and needs fresh air. This way, the trailer still looks somewhat original. The air unit face will be under the dinning table and out of sight, and the outside part will be inside a storage box.

Tim ,

The on the tongue through the front wall idea sounds ( as usual ) like a good idea . But personally , I don't think you'll be happy with it . For one , you CUT into your unit . NOT GOOD . Second , you CUT into the front which will give you two major issues . The dirt and grit coming up from the road is extremely high maintenance trying to keep it out of the back of the ac unit . And all the constant movement of the twist of the tongue and having an ac unit sitting on a mount there , you will never keep a good seal around the unit .

IMHO > Do the external thing . If nothing else , you can cover it and transport it in the tongue where the tanks used to sit .

Enjoy .. Rev Daniel

Rev, by external, are you saying a window unit?.

Not exactly . They make a unit that is sort of like those portable floor units , but they sit ourside and blow internally . I'll try to find a link to one and let you see . Didn't mean to sound ornery if I did about the cutting in the old girl . But everytime I have ever talked myself into cutting into something like that . I always had immense regrets later . lol lol

But again , let me seeif I can find you a link to one of those protable external units .

Rev D.

But you do use a window just like you vent a floor model portable , but the unit is outside and the thing blows in through a window thingt whatchyamacallit . lol

Pat, I removed the stove and furnace and do not plan to reinstall them. I never ever cook inside of a camper. To me, "camping" means cooking on a fire. Plus the cooking odors are impossible to remove. With my camper being small and storage space limited, I can use the space for storage. I also removed the furnace. I have never been keen on the idea of gas and a flame inside a small area such as a camper. I have found that a small ceramic electric heater works fine. So, no need for propane tanks.
NEVER NEVER NEVER CUT A VINTAGE !
Here is the best I could do as far as finding a unit similar to what I mean with only a few minutes hunting . But this might work real well for you anyway in a small space . you'd just have to fabricate something for a window fixture to let the tube move air in . http://youtu.be/CesrVjik20c

But this ia a fun looking thingy whatchyamacallit you could make at home real easy if real board . lol

Sorry for so many posts . But here is one just like what I am talking about . These are real slck units .

WOW, Rev.....$549.00!!.....I am a public servant, little pockets. hahahaha. I saw a popup camper with one of these. It did blow cool air but not very cold and the guy told me he was not happy with it. I noticed the 1 review said the same thing.

OH ! How I understand the shallow pocket syndrome . I am recovering from a very long three year illness and on the tail end of major surgery in Jan 2011 . It's wiped me out then some .

I don't know about that particular unit , but I do know some of the really will make your back teeth chatter with cold . But from that , it sounds as if your unit isn't all that big so you might just look at the Black and decker 8,000 btu unit . But I think it still runs about 249.00 .

I just grimmice when some says the word " CUT " . lol lol lol . You'd probably devaule the thing more then the 549.oo if you cut . But so goes life in the constant search for the perfect combination of comfort and convenience huh .

Safe journey's my fellow amatuer vagabond . lol
