Tell us a little About Yourself
My wife and I have been married for over 24 years now. We have three daughters of which two are still at home and our oldest is a graduate from Oregon State University as of 2011 (Go Beavers!).
I am a veteran tent camper, but when I graduated high school my parents finally bought a motor home. From that point on I used to camp with my parents in the motor home and that was so much more convenient. :o)
My parents continued to have motor homes while we had our kids so our children benefited from Grandma & Grandpa's generosity as well.
We are on the opposite coast from the grandparents now so we are own our own when we go camping. We currently tent camp but we just bought a 1969 Terry Travel Trailer in 2010.
My 15 year old daughter and I just gutted 90% of the interior this weekend (07.17.10). I am here because we need help from fellow RV'ers restoring our camper.....please help us. :o)
Thanks for the welcome! I stumbled across this site when I Googled "Cree Travel Trailer" and was delighted to see there are fellow Cree owners on this site!
We also belong to an online Airstream community which offered us sooooo much assistance while we were refurbing the A/S..........I'm happy to see this site exists for other types of trailers, I'm certain we will use it often.
The A/S is our first trailer and at this point the only useable trailer we own. The Cree came to us from a friend who spent his childhood camping in it and after he and his brother got too old for family vacations it sat in his fathers yard. My friend wanted it to be restored and used, so after promising we would take great care with it we brought it home. We know we will need to completely gut the inside, but we did the same with the Airstream so we have an idea of the work involved.....but it's all a labor of love, right?
I will post photos of the Airstream and a few photos of the Cree soon. The Cree was used as a storage shed, so it was hard to get good interior photos.
we are lucky I guess the 70 cabana is not too rotten,so just some wood replacement in the walls and an aluminum nailer along the fastenings locations ,some rivets, fiberglass, bondo and paint, shouldn't take more than a couple years ,ha ha ,
Recovering the interior in formica and updating the systems
I'll post some pics when my wife tells me where they are !
Hi! And thanks for the welcome message! I just purchased a well-loved 1969 Kit travel trailer and am excited to have found this site! Looking forward to all there is to learn as i get started!
I pulled out of the weeds a 1963 BeeLine 13' Hornet! I've been waiting for the owner to sell it to me for over 2 years. I paid $300,00 for it. It's been hard to find any info on this manufacturer but, I can't wait to get started!
thanks for the kind words .... I love this little trailer and only wish I had a place to really dig into it and remove any wood rot and such. As you can see in the rear (bathroom) definite leaking issue. Question ? Is it hard to take the panel section out or do I need to really tear it apart ? I am so glad I found this website. How Cool !!! Happy Camping !!!
Oh my gosh .... that was more information that I thought someone would respond with, meaning THANK YOU .... that helps alot. Gives me some great thought for my next step. Of course right now, I really want to seal the aluminum roof. I'm hoping to get this project going soon. Again ... Thanks so much for your help. Happy Camping !
Thanks for the kind comments! Re my '63 mobile scout's condition, those pics are the day after I towed it home. So that is the (fairly good) condition I bought it in.
I did not know this would be such a project and I don't even have a garage/shop it will fit in! It does have water damage around most of the windows and the roof vents, but not too bad. The worst is on the back window. Anyone know where I can get replacement birch sheets?
You guys have done amazing things with the Terry! Wow. It's going to be a beauty when it's done. You are an inspiration, but I don't think I'm that talented to do such a large restoration job! Maybe (I hope!) my trailer is in OK shape. I will tear off that birch in the back and see how she looks.
I've retired for a few years (which, for a freelancer, is not marked by a specific date) and my wife just this spring has retired from her work. We've traveled in Europe and Asia together plenty, but living in a travel trailer together (with very few motel nights) is something like working on a job together. It is nothing like taking a cruise or a tour. All logistics, all maintenance, all set-up and tear-down is a cooperative event. We're very good together, but I'm not gonna lie -- it's taken 38+ years. We're having a ball.
Thank you for your note.I love old Flx's. I have owned a 1945 Clipper ( needs lots and lots of work) for bout 18 years and have done nothing to her except drive her around Oregon. She was RV'ed in 1950 and is in it's original condition. Since my heart trouble, about 8 years ago, she has been in storage . Now that I am feeling a lil better I want to start a redo. Anyway thanks for the note. It"s always nice to hear from peope who loves these old beautiful buses. Let's keep in touch.
Lol, thanks but I'm an old lady of 46. In addition to that son-in-law I have 3 daughters(18, 20 and 22) and a grandson who will be 3 in October. Can't wait to take him camping! He already thinks the camper is about the coolest thing since juice boxes.
Greetings Craig and Lisa! Thank you for welcoming us! Your rv sounds super neat! This weekend we were ripping out carpet and dry rot! Its really exciting that their are other people who have fallen in love with an old rv too! I cant wait to go through and see what everyone has done. And about the duck issue, ironically the only graduation we went to this year was at osu for my cousin!
Thanks for your insight. Did you do any metal reinforcing? My huband knows how to weld and my father-in-law has a torch. We kinda want to add support. Again the craftmanship of this thing is suprisingly chinsey. I swear we are going to replace everything by the time we are finished. I like your pics, that is alot of work, and inspiration!
Holy Cow! You scared the you know what out of me! Thanks for the pics I had no idea it would be so much work. Im not into all of that. Yall really had some work, it looks like the outcome will be job well done.. Thanks for your advise.. I think I will keep looking.
Hi Lisa - nice to talk to another Terry owner. Yes-my cabinets do have a toe kick at the bottom. Let me know if you have any other questions. I am in the process of getting some pictures together. I just bought the camper a few months ago and only work on it every other weekend. So far, we have replaced the entire ceiling and put black and white tile in the bathroom floor. From the pictures, your camper looks exactly like mine.....even the color of the stove! :) Just curious as to what kind of furnace you are putting in it now? We put a furnace/air conditioner underneath of the long sofa. We plan to take the old furnace out and use the space as storage.
