I understand on the fuel mileage thing. I have a single carrier for a two inch receiver that we used for the first time this weekend. It is rated for 600lbs and looks iffy for 300 but it got the job done. there is an issue I found that will need to be addressed on both trips with two different bikes the tie down on the fork end out side the strap hook came off. first time I thought maybe we didn't cinch it down tight  enough. being a bike guy you can understand my dilemma you don't want to bottom out the forks so on the next trip we went a lot tighter and still had the same corner come off.different bike and different strap. I think the bar on the rack may flex on bigger bumps. just wanted to mention this to you after reading your reply to my post so you can maybe avoid these issues if you find the rack you are looking for.... I took a harbor frieght trailer and enclosed it, and I tow it behind the the 5th wheel (and mostly behind the truck that is being towed behind the 5th wheel as well.) as far as a bike carrier, Ive taken the front wheels off and mounted the bike front forks to a quick release,, same idea as Thule uses for roof top carriers.

I have a single bike carrier, we were looking for a double but they look too flimsy or too expensive. I would like to build one that has two receivers and folds up.  With the trailer, we can pack more gear and tools. We are now looking for a small enclosed trailer for more security. As far as gas milage, a small trailer is the least of our worries.

Greetings Kevin, congratulations on your trip. Looking at your picture I was wondering how much do you think your tow took away from your fuel mileage. I had a plan to beef up my frame extension and add a carrier on the back end. I've even thought about one out front but I'm worried about air flow to cool my engine. The next option is to tow but just one bike seams like a lot for me to mess with but, it's the most practicable by far.your thoughts greatly appreciated.
