Well,, after 30 years(plus) the ole a/c motor bit the dust. They just don't make em to last.

$413.00 sounds like a good deal to me. I've been looking around some and $600-$700 is the best I have found but, it's been a month or so ago I was looking.. Maybe end of season i'll have to start looking again. The Palace really hasn't been that uncomfortable though I don't live in it like You Lakota. I'm sorry you had the expense but glad you found one at a reasonable price.

That smarts, but replacing the whole thing is probably your best bet. The motor could be the first of many things to fail. Both my 31-year-old DuoTherm units (13.5k) still work. I do need to "hand start" the rear one sometimes by reaching up in there and giving the squirrel cage a nudge

The new ones must be more efficient, right? I often wondered if they draw less juice than the decades-old units and whether I could get away with running 2 new ones on my 30A shore power.

A replacement motor is $179.00  (ouch), Local electronic shop said its to old to rebuild, So am going to settle for buying a new replacement DuoTherm 15K BTU unit for $413.
