Austin, most early motorhomes just dropped their gray water on the ground. My 1970 Winnebago F-17 motorhome was built that way.Even the 1973 Winnebago D-18 I owned at one time didn't have a gray tank.Just a black tank.

Hows it going Ray? Im new to this site and the vintage RV game. I got lucky and picked up this very cool chinook. Its the same model and color yours was.
I wonder if yours has the same grey water tank mine has. Seems strange but mine has a small diameter hose coming off the bottom and the sinks drain out on the ground. Does that sound right. Call if ya like. 805-452-6132

Russell, You can block-sand the strips to remove them. Or you could use paint remover called Naval Jelly or Aircraft Paint remover. It is a jelly you brush on and it will lift the paint off in just a few minutes. Clean up with water. I used paint remover to take it down to the bare aluminum surface and the applied an etching primer before to painting. The fiberglass I hand sanded with 400 grit wet/dry to clean and scuff the surface.

Ray, I already removed all the decals, now I am stuck with the painted areas that were part of the stripping.  So if I sand them down, they will not show under the new paint?

Russel,

Those stripes are probably decals. Paint you can sand smooth with the rest of the panel. A decal will have to be scraped off with a heat gun or an oil-based solvent. Have fun!

This is just the first step, there is still a lot of work ahead. A project this big requires that you break it down into sections, one panel at a time. This was a bid shoot, but it is done. I chose to use a one-step, acrylic enamel. Once & Done, know what I mean. Any paint job is 90% prep. Sanding, filling, cleaning. Aluminum must be primed with an etching primer, fiberglass use a bonding primer. Remember, paint is not going to hide anything.

We also share Pat's desire to know.  My conundrum right now is ow to get the painted on stripes off so we have  clean canvas, as it were.
