I bought my 1969 Red Dale camper in Oct. 2010 and can't wait to get back into camping. I haven't been camping for at least 10 years and it is time to get back into one of my favorite past-times.

Thoughts on keeping the outer shell not painted

Hi, all,

I am debating about what to do with my Red Dale TT. Its paint is in need of stripping, I know a power washer is all it needs to remove the old paint because it is peeling, but I am considering keeping it unpainted on the top and then painting the bottom half. I want it to stand out and I like…

Better late than never. It is a 65 or so Metzendorf. Now with the skin off and down to the plywood. Doing a complete rebuild. Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks!  It is a 196? Metzendorf in need of a total renovation. We love her but are a little overwhelmed by the work!  Where are you in Colorado?

Hey Jennifer,
Thanks for the welcome. No I have not been to Capital Reef or the Arches, they are on the list. I Like your pics especially the cool motorhome.

Hi Jen!

I haven't yet camped in the US but plan to do so this summer. We usually camp in north eastern Ontario but this year we'll be heading west north west. Ontario is huge province and we just love the north! Our trip this summer will be to Agawa Bay and route will take us down around Lake Huron through Flint, Michigan. Hopefully I can find some nice place to camp around Grayling Michigan, as it appears to be around the half-way mark.

As for our TT, I picked up an old Golden Falcon last Spring that's in pretty good condition and I'm planning on restoring it before our trip this year. I "believe" it's a 1957 and I have a photo uploaded to my profile. Unfortunately, the last owner painted over the Gold on the outside to red, to match the truck he used to haul it, but I plan on bringing it back to Gold.

C'mon now, it hasn't been that long since the WS Rhea was in service...or has it? Hmmmm. Egad, I suppose it has! LOL! I believe that I mentioned that the boat was a Federal Barge Lines boat but reflecting back, that was incorrect. The WS Rhea belonged to Mississippi Valley Lines which was another big outfit at the time.

I'll try to upload the pics again. Must've goofed the first time.

Love that old motorhome in your pics. We went upstate the other day to look at one similar to it but was disappointed to discover that it was trashed. We're still looking though. I know it's out there somewhere, waiting for us to find it and bring it home!

Best regards!

Hi Jen,  My motorhome is a 1970 and the Spartan TT is a 1952. We are lucky that our parents introduced us to camping and RV's when we were young. Some of my favorite memories came from those trips and I can't wait to make more. We don't have a four legged travel companion at the moment but have had as many as three at a time. I like your little Red Dale, it will be a hit at the camp ground. Keep on camping!

Thanks Jen!  We stayed at a KOA in Mt. Pleasant.  It was wonderful.....I love the area.  Its also a very dog friendly city.  :)    I will definitely post more pictures!  This is my first restoration project......always wanted a Shasta with wings, but found this Terry and fell in love with it.

Thanks for the welcome Jennifer and Gary. The towboat you are referring to was most likely the W.S. Rhea. It was an old Federal Barge Lines boat. I worked for Federal back in the early eighties as a deckhand. Haven't heard that name in quite some time.

Oddly enough, I don't have many pics but I've added a couple from the towboat I work on now; one while at the shipyard, a shot of the pilothouse and one while coming up from New Orleans being overtaken by a freighter. Not much to look at but gives a general idea.

We drove up to Ottawa area a couple days ago to look at a class A but it turned out to be a dud. We haven't given up though. Neither of us can understand why we haven't pursued this idea long before now. I think we'll really enjoy it.

The northwest is one of the main areas that I plan to visit Capt. Gary. Pics of those trawlers in action would be very interesting!

Thanks again for the warm welcome.
