I want to buy a diesel rv in USA and bring it back to Australia to be registered here, after touring parts of USA in 2011. One requirement is to have a left side entry door. Can people advise me of businesses in the mid-west or West coast that could carry out this work, including probable forced, partial refit inside. Thanks. Allan

Myrtle, you are right. There is a variety of very good quality rv's in Australia, but different to what I am thinking of using the American rv for. I have got more decisions to make first. By the way, if you take your rv back out of Australia, you should be able to miss most of these costs. Entering through Perth, Western Australia, could be morelenient. Contact an Australian Embassy for factual help if you do want to tour Australia in your own LHD rv.

Hi Myrtle: Costs are as follows as best I know. Cleaning RV 'as new' - a la steam clean = $1000 approx, freight to Australia = maybe $10 000 to $15 000 depending on length of rv; Import Duty = 10% of invoice price; GST = 10% of invoice price; conversion to RHD & 240 volt = $25 000 - $35 000 depending on availability/cost of parts. The costs of supplying/fitting the left side entry door is extra to these costs. WIth these sorts of costs hanging over you, you need to buy at a good price and be clear about whether you are buying to keep or buying to sell.
I hope that this info helps.

I have no recommendations on the door. But I am curious about importing it from the USA to Australia! is that an expensive endeavour to ship it? I ask as it be something interesting to do down the road; tour the world in my vintage rv!
