I may have mentioned that I was building a storage box/ center console for my Van project. I happened along this old wooden toy box that was the perfect size to fit between my seats. The box itself was trash and pretty beat up with gobbs of hot melt glue in all of the joints because it was falling apart.
I took the box apart and scraped and sanded the glue off of it. Stripped the shelac- sanded it then took my propane torch to it to bring up the grain in the wood then put it all back together with liquid nails and screws. The inside will hold a stryofoam cooler big enough for a six pack of sodas and still have plenty of room to hold CD's and other junk. I also got the cooler free My GF got it at her doctors office and it has been laying around here for ages. Had to trim the cooler a bit to make it fit.
I am going with a sort of Pirate or Spanish Galleon theme on the interior so this box now looks like an old strong box or captains chest thanks to the addition of some trim work and even a fake lock for the front of it.
Maybe this will inspire someone to use some imagination with those junk items laying around and put them to good use?
