Hi! Newbee here. First, love the site. Now, I got a dodge explorer 260 last fall. just getting to it now. Here's what I'm thinking. First, not sure if the propane system works. What I'm thinking about is removing all of it and replacing with electric appliances First, as to  the oven. my cooking will be out side or in the micro-wave or on an electric cooking top. don't think I'll be many places where I'll need much heat, if I do a small electrical heater will be enough. an electric fridge would work for me. Yea, I'll have to be plugged in, but that's about what I'm thinking of.  Maybe put a water tank where the propane tank is. any comments?  anyone gone this route?

I like having dual systems especially where I am (Nicaragua).  If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Thanks for the heads up. I have a few problems. the reffer doesn't work in any of the 3 systems.  When ever I run the motor, it blows out the 12 volt fuse. The 12 volt works till I fire up the motor. could this be the transformer?

cool. thanks

This really depends on your camping needs.   If your not an active boondocker and always camp where you have access to electric, I say go for it.   Electric appliances are cheaper to buy too!

I had an apartment style 5 gal water heater in my last RV and it was great.   It only took about 10 mins to warm the water up and I could run it on inverter if needed.    As for an oven, many people including I never use them.   We have microwaves and wood fires.  ;)

Same with a fridge!  You could easily run it on inverter when underway!

cool. that's what I was thinking!!

My first motorhome had the propane removed before I found her.Used a 120 volt AC fridge for a year before I could install a inverter. It was a ice box when I was traveling on the road and got colder again when I could plug into AC power. This meant that I had to plug in every night when traveling. When I installed the inverter the engine alternator supplied all the energy the batteries needed to run my fridge and other AC appliances. But having as many options as possible is always a good idea.

thanks for the note. I have a generator and an inverter, I just have to run down a wiring problem. I'll keep t volt system, just not sure of the propane. thanks again  thanks

Hey Bill. They're expensive, but they make 12V refrigerators, Regrigerator/Freezers, and freezers alone, chest and vertical style for RV's these days. they've really improved the technology.

One thing, if you do your electrical appliances as much as possible in 12V you won't have the power loss of converting to 110V ~IF~ you wanted to dry camp/boondock... and to tickle your curiosity, appliances that are built for Marine use are 'typically' a little beefier and more durable... of course... they charge a "Marine" price too!

I understand the guys who like the three-way systems and the redundancy of that and can't argue against the sense of it... but I'm one who is ever more in search of greater simplicity. to each his own.
