We have a '95 Minnie Winnie and the headliner is falling down. Everything I have read requires scraping off the old foam and cleaning up (prepping ) the plywood ceiling by removing the glue and sanding. If I were to go to all that trouble, why not just stain or paint the plywood? I can't imagine that a 1/8" of foam has any insulation value. Am I missing anything? Thanks.
The foam is in the factory process of thermo bonding of the material to headboard. Wasn't the best of ideas. Yes you have to scrape the *fuzz insulation off and lightly sand the surface to get the material to adhere.
Iv'e seen and done both applications,, repaired material headliner and have even stained the headboard. Looks good both ways. *note tho,, headboard,i.e. headliners are usually made of compressed cardboard and WILL soak up some serious Stain, same as with Paint,,,, It has to be applied in very thin coats or it degrades the cardboard. If your lucky, and the factory installed LEXON board,, then it is rather easy to work with and stain.(its basically thin paneling.)..
Excellent - It will save a lot of time by not taking all the cabinets down. Thanks for the input!
